+1 for the headliner-rear window creak. Also I have a rattle that sounds like its coming from the dash above the gauge cluster. This car just has sooo much personality!

I just started getting this rattling noise from the back as if the trunk is loose, but it's not. All these noises just gives our cars character.

I've got a new one that sounded like little ice chunks rolling around on the trunklid...I now think it might just be the frozen water in the I/C tank that's making the noise...who knows...

My noise sounds a little like that too, but I live in So Cal where it's nowhere near being cold enough to freeze the water in my I/C spray tank.

I think people forget to remember that the STi is a street legal rally race car. This car was designed for a dirt/race course. It's gonna make all kinds of nise. Subaru isn't as concerned with rattles and noises like GM is with the Cadillac CTS.

i have an absolute cacaphony of sounds emanating from all points of the cabin. soon you will to.
get used to it as I have, else you will grow to dislike your ride.

clearly nvh suppression is not something that subaru management thought important for the sti.

it's called unconditional love.

I have like everybody noticed all the sqeaks and rattles. my 05 sti had it and so does my 06. thing i dont understand is... all my hondas for the past 10 years which has been like 8 cars from a 83 accord to a 01 type r never never had a rattle or creak. and the high end honda cars like the type r which is 95% made and built in japan dont have the noises but a $30,000 plus car that i assume is all made and built in japan has all these problems. I love alot
of things on the sti and to go back to honda would be a step down performance wise but why cant subaru make a car that doesnt squeak
and rattle?

my last car had all sorts of weird noises generating a couple of months after buying it. i learned to live with them, and totally forgot about them. never bothered me after that, and i had the car for 5 years before getting rid of it.

my sti makes a couple of weird squeaks here and there, but definitely not as much as my last car. i just learned to ignore them and drive on. gotta love it.

Well I knew before purchasing my STi that it would have squeks and rattles. I have several of the ones mentioned which don't really annoy me. There are two however, that do, and if anyone knows if they can be fixed I would greatly appreciate it. First of all, the driver's side seat belt squeaks quite ear piercingly when I pull it out to buckle in. I was thinking that a little WD-40 might do the trick but maybe someone could give me some insight with their experience. This one annoys me because it is so loud it actually hurts my ear a little.

Secondly, my brakes squeak but only when I am in reverse. I don't know too much about brakes which may explain why I don't understand why it would squeak when in reverse but not in drive. Does anyone have a solution for this problem. This one is bothersome because I have pride in my car and I feel that brakes squeaks are more of a maintenance issue, consequently, I don't want people to hear that type of noise coming from my car. Thanks guys.

Well I just installed a new amp and sub in my car and as a result had to remove much of the trim. I found the source and solution of the squeek that I described in the post above related to my seatbelt.

SOLUTION: Remove the seat belt cover trim and place duct tape over the inside covering the horizontal plastic pieces that stick out and are kinda flimsy. This allows the seat belt to glide over these without touching them directly.

If you have any questions, let me know. I forgot to take pictures but if anyone needs them I could probably remove the piece again to show you. Hope this helps someone.

i'll add my two cents-

i used to own a mustang so im no stranger to noises, in fact i think the mustang made less noise than the subaru

thought the subaru would be better but holy hell this thing is rickidy sounding sometimes

I have the click sound (probably axel nut thing)

there is also another click that is noticably different in tone than the previous one, probably a brake thing, sounds like its from the front and only happens when doing tight manouvers at low speed in parking lots such as pulling in/out of spots

my front suspension squeaks only low speed bumps

rear strut clunk for sure

some other sound from inside the car in the rear, i've concluded it MIGHT possibly be the center seat belt, but im not sure, i'll have to check the headliner although when in the backseat hitting my fist on everything i couldnt seem to make the headliner make any noise

also i have this scraping sound on tight right turnss from the left front wheel, thought it might be the backing plate scraping the rotor but bending it back a little bit failed to fix the sound

on and off i get some plastic rattle near the boost gage but the other noises always tend to drown that one out

i'd feel like a prick going to a dealer with a list like that, so im going to head over there soon for the big ones (scraping and strut clunk) and probably end up trying to fix the others myself
