Default Another New STi Owner

After a three week fiasco resulting in me cancelling an order and heading to Becker Subaru(Ken Irvine and Bob Hackmann are excellent people to deal with), I now have my brand new 2005 CGM STi. It has the boost gauge, armrest extension, and floormat options. So far I have put 400 miles on it and am loving every minute. Justin B introduced me to this site and I've been lurking for a little to try to learn more about this great car. I can't wait to break it in and head to the track for some stock times.

My first question is about the stock shifter. It's way too vague for me, but the install instructions I've read for the kartboy shifter make it seem like a total PITA to do, would I be better off getting Subaru to install the SPT one instead?

Oh and pinks or short shifter for my first mod?

Thanks!

Welcome!

Congrats on the STi!

I have the perrin adjustable shifter w/stock bushings. Works great, only difficulty installing was the lack of pin pusher, just used a solid object (the frame) and a screw driver and hammer to get it out.

Works great! Many recommend the kb ss, so you can't go wrong with either.

Thanks! I'll be sure to try it, I really would like a better shifter.

Welcome! I have the Agency power SS. Me and a buddy of mine did it, I do not think that it would be worth it to have subaru do it, as they will charge you an arm and a leg, it is NOT that difficult to do, although it is a pain in the ass. But anyways, welcome and enjoy!

Welcome! Kartboy seems the way to go, check on install prices as it may actually be worth it to have someone do it. I have the factory SS and I'm fine with it cuz I have not tried the kb yet!

welcome and goodluck with your new STi, if you care about autox classing at all, if you get the factory optioned short shifter you can stay in the stock class, if you get the kartboy that will be considered non stock.... just a little fyi

Does the stock short throw come with a stiffer bushing too?
