Does anyone think the their location plays a role in gas mileage?

I live in NYC and I never see the numbers you guys are getting. I drive 20 miles into the city for work and then back. My average fuel consumption is about 15mpg. (2005 stock sti, 12k miles, silencer delete).

The best mileage I've seen is ~21mpg.

I've been keeping track of my fuel consumption in a spreadsheet since I bought the STI:

http://www.istargazer.ca/sti/sti_fuel.htm

I only do city driving and I've got a pretty heavy foot. I don't drive for fuel economy. And since I've been driving the STI less, I've been maximizing "pleasure" at each session . So the data definitely shows declining numbers since new.

I haven't entered the data after I switched to Stage 1, but I'm sure it hasn't changed the trend. I'll try to update the spreadsheet this weekend.

I have a new top record for you. I just got back from a 300 mile all highway trip, and got 28.2mpg average. 100% stock 07.

  • For highway/freeway cruising, try setting DCCD to manual/full rear (open); reports vary but some people see 3 MPG greater mileage. This is a no-cost "mod" anyone can try.
What is the full rear on the DCCD. Is it the one that is open all the way at the bottom, or the one right above it in the green with arrow pointing back>?

Wow, I'm getting pretty good MPG right now. I'm at 290 miles on the current tank and I'm pretty close to hitting the low level light. I have done mixed driving. Hwy (70-85 mph), street, traffic, and a freaking 60 mile canyon run. All with some AC use. . Damn. I'm amazed.

I think I'm ecu has finally learned the HKS cat back.

Im suprised no one has said anything about this item i saw on ebay. I guess this means its garbage then..
Its some sort of Vortex Magnetic thing you put on your car some where...I can find it and post the link to it if no one knows what im talking about. This thing wont do anything to help the gas milege like it says it will?

(that means lots of slowing down for tourists, then passing them while driving up a steep uphill, (or downhill, but its easiest to pass on the ups) and yet i do a Ton of city driving. i live like 1.2 driving miles from my office. (warm the car up for 8 minutes, drive it 4 into work, cool down 2) really doesn't help the gas milage at all. should i not warm my car up when i drive to work (i almost always avoid using any turbo boost on the way in , anyways) ?
I cruise at 2,800 all the time and all my tanks average out to between 17-19 mpg.. can't seem to hit 20 mpg.

I also live in an area that the police patrol somewhat heavily at times so It's difficult to stay going 85 mph in a 45 with out getting pulled over.

Warming up the car is a great idea, I do it for 2 minutes, just to let the oil circulate and once I'm on the road hitting boost on the on-ramp it goes up to full temp with in seconds.

They tested pretty much the same product only with a different name on the show "Myth Busters". It had no effect in changing the MPG.

That's a great way to increase fuel consumption and increase fuel dilution in your oil.

How much idling does it take to get the water temp up that high?
