Ye gods this is a helpful thread. TYVM, Ben. Here's an addition that may help.

WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get
FORD - Fix Or Repair Daily (I drive one, I should know)
SRT-4 - Neon on steroids... but not good steroids.
H6 - Horizontally opposed 6 cylinder engine (for the heck of it)

I've also seen these used in places...

AX - AutoCross or AutoX
n00b - Someone who is brand new (also, newbie, noob, nube, etc.)

Most of these are abbreviations. An acronym is an abbreviation that is pronounced like it's spelled, e.g., "NATO" or "FUBAR". Not all abbreviations are acronyms, though.

I would like to add a couple more, non-techinical abbreviations...

LOBNH - Lights on but nobody home
WWND - What Would Nivek Do?
username-san - (-san = such a n00b) Example - Saint-san (me). It's like the Japanese decelnsion of familiar names. It's endearing and somehow condescending at the same time.

So, nothing of real value to contribute other than an amusing thought or two. As usual.
