rev matching? explain? how do you know where to rev to match the gear, does it just come to you after learning the car?

the way I was taught stick was when stopping, stay in the gear you are in until u start to slow down then into 1st and hold down the clutch all the way, or into neutral and use the brakes to stop you the rest of the way

I was never told to rev the engine as I downshift..

i usually just tap the gas pedal when down shifting, it kinda comes naturally..

i started rev matching on my gsx-r.. the technique moved naturally to a manual transmission car.

iono, it just feels right.

The STi manual transmission is very easy probably the easiest of all the manuals I have ever driven. Automatics were pretty rare in Sri Lanka where I grew up. When I came to the US I have always made it a point to buy manuals. It is just more fun.

If you are going to order one and not buy one off the lot, the lead time right now is about 3 to 4 months from the time Subaru picks up the order from the dealership (Subaru picks up orders from the Dealerships here in Vancouver, Wa around the 15th of the month). Normally the lead time is about 6 weeks... So a very long wait!

Also, the STI's come from Japan on the ships, when they get to the ports here in the US companies like AWC will install all the optional equipment (Sport Grille, Auto-Dimming Mirror, SPT Turbo Gauge, etc) and then the car is delivered to the Dealership.

Cheers,

Travis

2) All STIs are assembled in Japan right? so that means they come to the states by ship all ready to go? if that's the case do they come in their own individual boxes? or wrapped in layers of bubble wrap? like how do they prevent scratches on them all the way from japan?
STi is very easy to drive. My wife's first car was/is her 2010 GTi, and she learned on it and stalled a lot. On the STi when she drove it for the first time the other week, she found it much easier to drive and never stalled it.

Now she wants to keep the STi and give me the GTi.

She didn't stall the STI because she has learned how to drive a manual now

The STI is pretty difficult as far as manuals go IMO. It take more finesse to drive smoothly since you have the AWD and the SI drive makes it difficult since the throttle is all over the place.
