IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 | Hi, I have a 2008 STi. Last week the engine began making noise so I took it into the dealer. They claim the number three piston is completely destroyed and that it has destroyed the rest of the engine. Subaru is denying my warranty claim and quoting a price of $8,000! They claim that there was a lot of carbon build up in the cylinders which indicates no oil changes which is B.S. I have done all oil changes. Anyway, after a very hasty search I am finding that this may be a common problem in this engine. Is there anywhere on this site or another site where all of this info is collected in one place so I could collect it and make an argument with subaru warranty? I would really appreciate any help. For those of you interested in a little more history..... It is a 2008 with 16k miles. I have done oil changes. I NEVER race the car and rarely drive above about 80 as I almost always have kids in the back seat and a Yakima space case on the roof. I have been driving sports cars for 10 years and think I am a pretty good driver. The oil light never came on. The check engine light never came on and engine temp never went above half way. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 | you aren't modded in any way are you? still though i would fight for it to be covered under warranty.like the others said there are several threads on here and also there is something aboutit in car and driver magazine with the same issue. Good Luck |

| The Next Petter Solberg Feedback Score: 4 reviews | You must produce reciepts for the oil changes you have been doing, you must not have had any mods at all, even ones you removed, they can still figure it was modded at one time. Take it up with SOA, and I wish you luck! |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2008 | hey, thanks for the replies. It has NEVER been modded. I have been able to find receipts for three oil changes that were done at Express lube, but I did two myself and they say I need receipts for the actual oil. Are you serious. I could have bought oil for my wife's car and never changed it. A receipt for a case of oil would prove nothing and seems like a pretty weak point on which to deny a warranty. |

IWSTI Addict since: May 2006 | Do a search for a couple of threads by bytor. (Edit - Here they are. My personal 08 STi experience(s) and Subaru finally makes good on Bytor's engine failure!) He had heavy carbon build-up on a car that only had 1,987 miles when the engine failed. By the way, I was just thinking that it'd been nearly a week and we hadn't had any more reports of '08/'09 engine failure. Gary Last edited by upncummr; 07-11-2009 at 07:19 AM.. |
