Hello everyone-

Recently I was involved in an accident with my 08 Legacy. Someone lost a ladder on the PA Turnpike and I ended up running over it since I had no where else to go (there was a car on the right and a jersey barrier on the left). The car was lowered and it ended up doing some damage on the underside. I came across a salvage title 07 STi that had 9k on the clock. I ended up winning that car on ebay tonight. Before bidding I called to check to see if there was frame damage and was told by two different people that there wasn't. I showed the pictures to the manager of the body shop where my car is being fixed now and he said as long as the frame wasn't damaged it would be a good buy.

I'd like to skip the pros and cons of a salvage title debate if possible. My dad has purchased two cars that we own right now as salvage titled vehicles and they run fine. There was no frame damage to any of them and they were repaired very well. Ford was even fixing the Mercury Milan he has under warranty until they figured out that it was a salvage titled vehicle a year later.

Anyway, I know I'll be needing some parts for this car. It was involved in a front end wreck. The fenders, hood, headlights, bumper beam, etc were damage and unsalvagable. Any idea of a source for these? I was told that used STi parts are hard to track down.
While we are at it, is there a difference between the WRX front end and the STi front end other than the grill? What about the headlights? I am going to guess that the STi has HIDs and the WRX doesn't.

Any advice would be appreciated. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be joining the ranks of STi owners. I've wanted one since I was in my friends '04 back in high school.

Thanks!

First off welcome, Personally I wouldn't even touch a salvaged car. thats not just for an STI that goes for any car. you"ll have more headaches then you ever imagined. If your lucky enough I am sure you can find parts to your car in junkyards etc.

Be sure to look in the classifieds as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask we dont bite peoples heads off to bad like Nasioc.

I have a question that might seem dumb. How do I tell what color my STi is? I don't have the car here yet so I can't look for the plate that would have the color code on it. Would the dealership be able to tell by running the VIN if I gave it to them? Would posting a few pictures of it on here allow for you guys to tell me?

Also, I wanted to know if there was a difference between the fenders and front bumper and grill between year and models. Eg. Would an 06 WRX driver side fender and front bumper work with an 07 STi passenger side fender? Is there anything different about the STi front bumper and fenders vs. the regular WRX stuff?
What about headlights? The car has both headlights although they are most certaintly not usable. I know the STi is HID and the WRX is not. Is it possible to just pull the ballasts off the back of those lights and use them on WRX lights or would I need all new headlights?

Thanks,
Adam

if you posted pictures im sure someone could tell you. you could also get a quote for car insurance on that car and give them the vin number and it should tell you. (if you do it online).

as far as the bumper and headlight and all that im not to sure about. depending on the years of the wrx's it could all be different. someone will chime in.
