| Lurker | Hi everyone, Looking to trade my 04 rx8 for an 04 sti. anything I should look into before doing the switch? This sti has 91k on it for an 04. but it's in my price range. I've never owned a subaru nor knew anybody with experience with them, are they reliable at high miles? I figured who better to ask than sti owners themselves. This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | mine is at 92k now (04) got it for 17500 (bought with 89k). might have over paid a bit, but got some nice parts previous owner took great care of it. mechanically flawless. i don't regret my choice, shop the market though and find one that is in good shape. miles doesn't always mean a bad car. (my dads 99 avenger is at 44k miles and the engine is dieing fast, stalling at random, hesitates like crazy getting on the gas, sisters 98 Talon has over 100k and runs like a champ still) so just shop around. don't say yet to anything on the first visit. EVER. Last edited by GWjade87; 10-06-2008 at 06:31 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2006 Trader Rating: (1) | Make sure that the 90k maintenance is done on it and know that at 105k miles (or a bit sooner) you will need to replace the timing belt, water pump and timing belt tensioner. So if you drive 15k miles a year, you will need to plan on about $1k to $800 of upcoming maintenance just for that alone if you take it to a shop. Like the others above said, 90k miles should be a low price (in my opinion more so because of expensive upcoming maintenance). You can pick up an 05 with around 55k miles for around $20k if you shop. I bought a 03 WRX with 96k miles on it for a good price and had no unusual problems (cracked radiator around 100k, clutch started going at 104k). It had been running a Cobb AP and 3" turboback for probably 70% of its life. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
