Default I don't actually own a subby...

A best friend of mine is head-over-heels in love with the STi. Has been for a few years now. He'll be getting one in the near future (close to November 2008).

I drive a 2006 Scion tC.

He wants to drag/auto-x vs. me. I think I'm the better driver though.

So I came here to check out the modifications that others are doing so I can get a heads up on what to expect him to go for. He's more into the HP side of things.

This is a new one. What mods do you have on the Scion? Are you boosted at all? What am I saying...unless you have some SERIOUS power mods there is just no way I see you getting the win unless your friend is a TERRIBLE driver.

I would say on the strip you have little to no chance even if he is a bad driver. Your car is under powered and FWD which doesn't make for very good 1/4 times. I would say if you're a decent driver then you should be able to hang if not beat him on the auto x though.

The Scion TC has become the new Honda Civic. There are a lot of TC owners out there who think the car is a lot quicker than it is. Before I traded in my 05 STi I was accousted by several non turbo Scions -- I just don't get it.

No offense to the OP, but the STi is in an entierly different class. If beating your buddy's new STi in a race is a must, I'd start looking at new cars or looking for a good tuner.

Good luck to you, and please keep the racing on the track.

You win the prize for most ridiculous thing I have read all day. You have a scion and want to race an STI. And you are asking about his mods? LOL you need a big turbo kit and some serious rubber up front to even be close to hanging with an STI on a dragstrip dude.

Sadly, I have to agree that it has become the new Civic. Nothing I can do about that. My old Tercel was faster than a lightly turbo'd tC. At least in my Tercel I was in the high 13s in the 1/4 on 12psi. My tC is terribly slow. And short of a built block and high boost, it will remain slow. I'm not much into modifying the looks of it, just the performance. The only things visually I have done is projector headlights (for H.I.D.s) and fog lights. The rest is stock.

Please don't get this confused. He is the one pressing the race. Not I. I don't much care, because as you pointed out, they are different class cars. But, hey, for sh*ts & giggles. Why not? At least in Auto-X I know I have a much better chance of success. I'll drag race him just to humor him.

I only race on tracks. But, as the last few years, I've preferred the tracks to have curves. I have gotten bored with the straight line.

And as far as driving, he misses more shifts than he should.

wait wait wait....

dont count the scion out so fast... they actually do pretty well with a t3/t4 turbo kit and about 15psi.... i had a scion tc give me a run for my money one day....

t3/t4 recirc EWG, 15psi, boost controller, upgraded clutch.... from a dig they get smoked....a roll is different and anything is possible on the autox

i won, but still... for a normal stage 2 sti, it would have been a drivers race....

Thats a lot of work to make the race close. If someone is willing to do all that, they might as well have started with a faster car.

I disagree... sleepers are fun. I bet that tC driver has a constant grin on his face.

Sleepers are indeed fun. Thats why I put a turbo on a Tercel. The "WTF!?" looks are priceless.
