Default K&N 69 series intake...yea or nay?

Hi everyone,

About a year ago I had just gotten my STi ('07) and I decided to get the SPT Hi-Flow Intake(). That turned out to be a bust. Yes, it did sound nice when it was spooling up and had a sweet BOV whoosh, but I noticed it felt like it was being held back and just didn't have the take off the line it had.

So I went back to the factory version and all happily ever after (minus my $$$).

I had been reading up on the K&N 69 series intakes for the 07 STi and it says its good (helps with marketing and sales I'm sure).

But I have heard that my last intake was good too.

Does the K&N really show improvement or is it just another SPT? Thanks

Any intake, on a stock sti will "work". Of course the comapny says it's gonna give you horse power. But if you really want to benifit form it, you'll have to get protunned. Other wise you're ecu is just playing catch up. From expeierence with an untunned 07 sti, you'll only lose low end and feel MAYBE 4-5hp top end. Which IMO is not worth the money, time, and effort.

stock intake box with k&n drop and silencer delete best intake when you are lightly modded imo

Thanks Tyler....quick question, and its why I'm in the newbies...

What is a "pro tune"? Will that void my warranty, and where/who would do this?

Last one....any idea on a ballpark price range?

A protune is when a "tuner" (subie specialist, in engine tuning) dyno, or road tunes you're car. It is specificly for "you're" car. It makes the car run smoother, have more power, and run safe. Chances are there's a tuner in you're area. You're gonna have to look around here for one.

A protune will void you're warranty because it alters the ecu programing. But if you're worried about warranty, you shouldn't be modding in the first place.. Hope that helps!

Ah. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, guess I'll be waiting for about 5 years then before I go nuts.
Hopefully I'll still have the car by then, who knows...

The new Skyline's are pretty nice looking, but I'd have to see some long term reliability before I put down that kind of $$$
