Check the regional forums. They're bound to have some information on tuners.

+1

it may sound paranoid, but I'd recommend having a compression test done before buying a used 07 STi (or proabably any used STi for that matter). Once you start modding, tuning, racing etc... any time the car performs less than perfectly (which could be for a number of reasons), you'll be thinking ringlands.

I'd wait until late in the negotiation to do this and possibly make the sale contingent on 4 healthy cyls. You might even be able to convince the seller to pay.

i have a cousin that is 6 foot 9 that fits pretty comfortably in my car but I have an 04 STi (I am not sure if there is much of a headroom difference) You should be ok but it could be a tight squeeze unless you have the seats on the floor..

Gearing changes, yes. Heads and pistons? I'd like to know where you're getting your information. Please cite it, or discontinue posting such things as they're going to cause confusion.
Dang boony, I said I thought they were different heads and pistons; not that I was stating fact. Anything I said would be in reference to something I read on here or mfg site. I'm still hunting for my "sources" cause I know I've seen mention of this on here before but this might give you some idea of where that information I gave came from.

From the Cobb map release notes: http://www.accessecu.com/accessport/subaru/new/07%20STI/Map%20Notes/Stage2%2093%20v104.pdf

"Just to give you an idea of the differences between the 2007 STi and the previous USDM STi models...the 2007 STi has different pistons, different fuel injectors, a different ECM with different ECM programming, a different turbo, a different boost control system (mechanically), an air pump has been added, different gear ratios, different cylinder heads, etc."

And while on the topic according to this there are no differences in the wastegate.
VF39 (04-06 STI) vs. VF43 (07 STI) - Myths busted

I guess this is somewhat off topic but it just seems like you called me out a bit. I try my best not to relay bad information and most anything I do pass along came from this site; I mean I spend like 5 hours a day here. Much love to the mods for policing the community and keeping the riff-raff out though

To the OP: the differences between the 06 and 07 are minor and if its the look you like I think you will be happy with either one.

First time I've seen this. And I've read a lot. Any idea when that file was last updated? Just curious. I need to dig in again. See below.

I wouldn't cite that as a source, necessarily. Also note that the word "different" is used commonly to describe the VF 39 and VF 43. This thread basically says there are no appreciable differences. So the confusion may come from our choice of adjectives. Or casting marks.

We try. It's hard to keep up with it all, and the reports of what was and was not changed continually evolved/evolves. Subaru was kind enough to release bad information (twice), and thorough enough (sarcasm) not to debunk bad information that certain journalists were spreading.

I guess I need to get Gabedude to draw up a complete list of differences. He's got nothing better to do.

I meant custom tune. It seems like we are very much the same, as I am 6'5 and just purchased an STI with the goal of running mid to low 12s. I don't want to get too off topic, but with COBB stage 2 and OTS map, high 12s can be expected. With a tune, mid 12s should be expected. With a little more research on mods, you can figure out what will make you go lower.

As far as I'm concerned, OTS and mail in tunes will never be as good as cusom tunes, because they were not designed for your specific car. Every car is different, and they have to play it very, very safe. Of course, if you have a terrible shop, it can be worse!

As people said here, go and sit in one. It shouldn't be that difficult to find one at a used car dealership. Feign some interest, and go sit in it. See how you like it. Or do the same with a private sale. It's better than buying without ever sitting in one. (as a note... I bought one without having sat in one, and it worked out fine... but it's not the smartest idea.)

Hey Brad, if you come out to Casa Grande sometime I can let you sit in my '07. It is not a limited but I have sat in one and I am not so sure that you would fit in a Limited at 6'6". I am 6'3" and had to "scrunch" down to fit in it. The sunroof is actually the deal killer on the Limited I was going to buy. I went with the regular STI instead and fit in that fine.

The fact that you're 6'4" and about 260 makes me feel a little better about the seat. Thanks for your post![/quote]

Glad to help ''big guy''.

I want to tell you what i went thru to get my'' baby''.
In september of 2007 i decided that i needed something with more pep to drive here in ''LaLa'' land as my honda element was like a ''ball and chain''.

In sept 07. was in the gym every day,i was eating healthy,my sleep patterns were a normal 6- 8 hrs every night.
By october i was out of the gym for a month straight,i was eating fast food,i was smoking a pack of cigs a day,i was on line 20 out of 24 hrs a day looking /searching for a subi wrx ,later it bacame the STi as new wrxs' were
gone.
By november my search turned into a coast to coast project.I was prepared to go anywhere including canada. Besides the ''not training'',not ''eating clean'',and a new smoking habit, i temporarily quit working,i started using ''pep pills'',stoped all contact with everyone i knew.
I didnt sleep more than 1 hr a day,I smashed my laptop against a wall [bought a new one],I was nasty to every one including car dealers on the phone and on line[using profanity].
I then realized it was serious when i casually boycotted thanksgiving, and found myself looking in kenya east africas' subaru web site for my future car.
One day after T-giving i got an urgent email from Jenn Saur, the fleet manager from south coast subi in costa mesa [shes' now in norwalks store ].She previously put up with me and my crying with Honesty."You may never find a brand new 07 STi w/out gold rims or the huge wing,in black let alone any STi PERIOD! CLICK {me hanging up}.
Her email said CALL ME WE FOUND ONE.LAST ONE On THE WEST COAST!
I PICKED HER UP On DECEMBER 1st w/never test driving one or IT!
Or Sitting in it .
My life is back to NORM [what ever that is}.I dont regret the crap i put myself thru to get her.Every time i get into my car my heart goes a little faster. When i turn the key every one looks at my car.PORSCHE owners, even ferrari owners give me peace signs. It was worth the effort!
