They're too hard to find and all of them are 1,500-2,000+ miles away. I'm leary about buying one without looking at it!

The fact that you're 6'4" and about 260 makes me feel a little better about the seat. Thanks for your post!
Where are you? You may be able to find an owner local to you who'd be happy to let you test fit yourself.

Thanks for your help. You brought up a good point with the sunroof option, I didn't think of that.

I live and work in Tempe, Arizona. I actually found an 06 STI online, although it's very heavily modded and I wouldn't be interested in that. Is there a bunch of differences between the 06 and 07?

Check the Used STi Buying Guide link in my sig.

Also, if you just want to know if you fit in the car, who cares if it's modified as long as the seats are stock. .

Some. Cosmetically (sp???) they are very similar. The 07 has chrome backed headlights and taillights while the 06 are a light flat black. If you want SWP (satin white pearl);the best IMHO; then that's only available on the 07. Now the engine and tune are different. The 07 has different gear ratios and I believe different heads and pistons. If you go the 07 route you will want to get some form of EM (Cobb AP, UTEC, opensource tune) etc before you go doing any modifications as there have been reports of people grenading motors (although I think its far more blown out of proportion than actually happening). They have different turbos as well but there is a thread floating around analyzing the vf39 and the vf43 and found they are basically identical. I guess that's all I can think of right now.

Oh the center caps on the 06 BBS wheels say BBS while on the 07's they say STi

EDIT: And I think the 07's have the front fender braces and the 06's don't but don't quote me on that.

The tails are actually a semi-metallic grey. Not close to black.

Incorrect. The engine is the same EJ257 as in the 06. The turbo has an updated wastegate, the exhaust valves are changed, and there are minor tweaks here and there. The main difference is the ECU. Not just the tune. 07s have a different ECU entirely. And yes, the tune kind of sucks.

Gearing changes, yes. Heads and pistons? I'd like to know where you're getting your information. Please cite it, or discontinue posting such things as they're going to cause confusion.

Yeah I will definitely be doing stage 2, wheels, tires and some suspension work. I read the FAQ and Tune forums and it actually made me more confused then before. I'm coming from american muscle so needless to say it's a lot different!!!!! I would like to have a mid 12 second vehicle. So taking into consideration what I have said will be done to the car is there anything else you would recommend?

I'm going to call that dealer so I can sit in the car. I'll let you know what I find out.

Check the "Fastest Times" forum. You can find some guys running those times in an 07 and see what they're doing to get there.

I am also 6'2" 220lbs, when I sit in the stock seat I easily have 4-6 inches of headroom and maybe more. Thinking that a persons height is a combination of their legs/torso and head, some of that extra 4" you have on me is going to be in your legs. Lets say 1/2 of it just for numbers sake. So sitting down next to me, you would still be 2 inches taller in the torso.

That said with the adjustability of the stock STI seat, you shouldnt have any issues at all. The Stock STI seat is the same as the Limited seat with the exception of the leather IIRC, im not sure if they have heated seats or not. There are plenty of bigger guys, bigger than me that do not have a problem sitting the seat at all. If you run a search for seats, you will find that there many 6'6" 200+ guys running the stock set up with no problems.

A power seat I dont think will be needed as when you lower the seat, the back end drops down a bit more than the front. If all else fails, look into an aftermarket seat. I just picked up a set of Evo Recaros and height adjustable brackets and was able to lower my seat about another inch. Total setup for both front seats cost about $1000 once it was all said and done. My seats also are lowered all the way, I still have about another 1/2 inch to go if I wanted.

Edit, I just read a bit more of the thread and didnt considered the sunroof stealing some of your head room. You might be better off with a Standard STI in terms of that. Really the best thing to do is find a local owner that will let you sit in their limited to check it out.

The mechanical seat has all of the same movement ranges of an electronic one. I am 6'5", and I have no problems with head room whatsoever. Now that being said, I don't have a sunroof, but I would think that owuld help rather than hinder. As well, I don't gangster lean the seat, but I'm not sitting bolt upright, so as long as you have a relatively normal sitting position, you will be more than fine. (by the looks of your description, we do the same thing with the seat, so again, you'll be fine)

Stage 2 plus a tune, and you'll be mid 12s (providing you aren't scared to dump a clutch at 5500 rpm, or are incompetent).

The stock driver's seat is height adjustable as well, for the record.

The only way you will know whether or not you fit comfortably is to go sit in the car. I have been in a lot of cars that people claim will fit me that do not. The Corvette being prime among them. Everyone's body is different and the STI seats and positioning may not work for you. But you will not know for sure till you sit in the car.

As for differences between the 06-07, see Boony's responses. These changes are subtle and you probably would not notice the difference unless you have driven a lot of STis and know their quirks. Just be warned about the 07 factory tune, there have been issues in the past with it. If you are planning on going stage 2 make sure its catted. Otherwise get it pro tuned.

Cool, and by a tune you mean the Cobb Access Port or a custom tune by a performance shop? There was always a HUGE difference between custom tunes and handheld or mail tune with american muscle. Is this also the case with STI's? Thanks for your help!

If you go to stage 2 (Cobb AP + TBE) and you are running Cobbs off the shelf (OTS) map, you will be at about 270-280ish at the wheels on an 07. If you get the custom tune, you will be close to 300whp. If you are a decent driver that custom tuned set up will get you into the 12s. Some members are able to do it stock, and others with the Cobb OTS map. But you will have a better chance if you get the tune.

There is also a massive difference in power/delivery and smoothness in the custom tune vs the OTS mapping.

Do you know of a place in Arizona that does custom tuning on STI's?
