Default 06 STi Clunk noise when turning

Hey guys, i just want to ask you if this has happened to you or you might know someone that has similar problem. This has happened to me everytime i am starting in gear trying to drive out of the parking lots/driveway and stuff and when i turned my wheel. There is a sound coming from my front end, most likely its coming from the suspension area. It is a clunking noise. It may clunk once or twice, but after that its gone. I have no suspension mods or anything. Does anyone know what this noise might be and/or what causes this noise to happen? Should i have it checked or anything? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you're still under warranty, bring it to the dealer and tell them you have the strut clunk. They will replace the struts

Even in the "auto" setting you will still hear noises from the dccd system. It's very normal. It only happens at slow speeds when the steering wheel is at a steep degree. Most likely parking lots and drive ways. I highly doubt it's strut clunk. Strut clunk dosen't happen in parking lots, a bump or vibration would upset the strut. You're fine IMO..

My strut clunk only happened in uneven parking lots at slow speeds

Thanks for the reply guys, my dccd is set on auto. it happens when i turned my wheels to the right or left, most likely when i'm backing up. When i moved forward i dont really hear it. I'm out of warranty (i think) i have 43k miles on mine. Like i said i have no suspension mods. I do have a bump coming out of my driveway, but it doesnt explain why it happen when i'm leaving my work

It may just be the AWD system vice the suspension. Your owners manual (at least the 07 ones) state that you may hear some noises when turning at slow (i.e. parking lot) speeds. Mine does as well, but so far mostly when reversing and going very slow. You should be ok...

I concur on the AWD nature of the car. Does it do it the same on pavement as off-road? *Possibly* a loose/flipped sway bar.

Also check the CV boots, make sure they aren't torn.

Otherwise, follow what the rest of the gang suggested here. I'd be willing to bet that if we combined all the knowledge in this forum, we can probably build new STi's ourselves.

hehe ya probably, thanks guys. I heard it last night when i'm backing up from parking slots at work. It is definetely coming from the rear. I had my windows open, and i can hear it clearly as i was backing up and turned my wheels it's a little bit more of a clunk ( i think ) it is coming from the suspension bcs if it comes from the awd system, i probably would've felt it on my steering wheel ( can't i ? ). At first i thought it might be the CV boots too like PELEG said .. i just dont know how strong the CV boots on the STI is compared with other cars .. like Honda i know has a weaker CV boots ever .. older ones maybe. Again, i probably will get them to check it when i have my oil changes. Thanks again guys.

Try lubricating the rear struts:

not too much effort, and you'll know if it's clunk or not.
