Question get the AP or no?

hey guys i just got a bone stock 07 sti like a week ago, it seems to run fine, but i read alot of threads about 07 sti's motors blowing up, and im still under the factory warrenty for about another year or so, would it be better to get the accessport and do a stage 1 tune? or just leave my car as is until the warrenty expires? and if i get a k&n drop in filter along with the modified elbow (silencer delete) will the stage 1 tune be efficient or will i be running lean?

Get the AP, but get a protune with it...I'm sure if you go to a tuner they would be more than happy to sell you the AP with a custom tune. The problem with the OTS maps is they are not designed for YOUR car. All cars are not equal from the factory due to the various tolerances which can add up to a big effect in the end.

In summary:

GET THE AP, but use OTS maps at your own risk. If you want reliability go to a tuner and have them make a custom map for YOUR car. Plenty of people run OTS maps with no problem, but I personally don't think it is worth the risk that you may not be one of those people/have one of those cars.

I would get one. I bought an AP for my '05 WRX wagon 8 months after owning it, and I was more than satisfied simply running Stage 1. I think the increase in gas mileage over the three years I owned the car more than paid for it. I got about 2 to 3 mpg better after the AP was installed.

That said, I'm planning to get one for my new '08 STI soon.

+1 on the AP, especially for the 07.

I agree that you should get protuned, but I don't think an OTS map is really that dangerous if you are using the correct one. Technically isn't the stock map (on every car ever made) also an OTS map since I'm sure Subaru does not tune each car individually coming off the assembly line.. so by your logic, pretty much every car out there is running an un-safe map, which is not true.

The stage 1 AP map is a step in the right direction, but the pro-tune is ideal... especially since it will get you more power (and most likely better gas mileage).
