Default Soon 2B STI driver... :)

Hey Guys,

Just signed up! Thought I'd say hi! Unfortunately I'm not an STI owner yet, but will soon be making a purchase.

I've signed up today to read up on the latest trends and get as much info as possible to help me make the right decisions for my future vehicule.

Cheers,

Frank

Thanks Szumita!

I'm really looking foward to it! Right now looking to get either 2005 or 2006 depending on millage. Colors don't really matter, although I'd prefer either white pearl or black, since the Rally Blue is seen all over the place, but in the end, I'd still be very happy if I owned a blue one haha.

I read a couple posts about the 07s having bad tunes.....should I stay away from them or what? I really don't want to make a purchase and then have to deal with tunning problems. Unless perhaps the previous driver would have taken care of that.

well the only real problem with the 07's is the crappy tune. Most flash stage 1 right away with cobb accesport. But some havent had any issues yet. What are your plans for the car? (modding, daily drive, track)

Well....this car will be a daily driver for sure. Since I'm in Canada and it snows alot....I won't get into any major modifications. I would for sure lean towards getting an Cobb AP (sounds like the best mod to start with) and then maybe down the road get a Air Intake and Catback system. I'm not looking to turn this car into a monster as it is already a beast in stock form.

Now, I will probably bring this car to the track once in a while, but it won't be to make 50 passes in 1 night. Been there...done that....got the t-shirt. It would mostly be to get an estimate of my ETs. The last thing I want to do is destroy this car. I strongly beleive this car is not made for the track but more for the road, in its stock form of course.

Sounds like you've thought through what the sti to a good degree, but take one more point and don't an intake unless you plan on a protune. The Cobb AP is great for tuning but the OTS maps do not have intakes built into their tunes. Also a catback is great if you want sound and looks, but a downpipe will be less costly and net you waaaayyyy more power as it puts you at stage 2 with the AP.

Good luck with your purchase!

Welcome to the forum.

Here is a thread you'll want to read, especially the 2nd bolded part, "Buying a STI" Newbie Threads of Interest

Those couple threads will help you to know the differences between the years and one is a buying guide to help you know what to look for when you go to buy it. I just bought mine 3 days ago and found those to be really helpful in figuring out what year I wanted and what to look for when buying one.
