Hey everyone, I am new to the forum and without a doubt a future STI owner. I am hoping to get some input on when to buy the car that I always wanted.
For a little bit of background info I'll say that I am in the military (Army) and a couple of back to back 1 year deploymnets (between 03 and 06) kept me from buying the car, because of how little time I would spend with it in the states. When I returened from last trip to the desert I knew that I would go to South Korea for another year, so I made plans to buy a brand new STI when my tour was done.

Now that I am in the states for a couple of months I must return for another year abroad (even longer story). Being here I can't make myself buy a brand new 08 because it's a 5 door. Buying an 09 upon my return is out of the question for the same reason: I must have a 4 door STI.

With money not being an issue, Would it be better to buy and 07-06 STI now(good condition, low mileage) and put away in the best storage that I can find for one year, or wait until the summer of 09 and try to find a well taken care of 07 STI when I get back?

I do not foresee a sedan version of the STi coming back any time soon. That's really the question you're asking. If you're willing to do a little legwork, you can buy an STi in Asia, like maybe an S204 or Type RA-R and have it brought back. That'd be pimp!

In my opinion wait and buy the car upon your return.

Whether you buy it now or buy it later, you'll have to go through a bit of a search process to find exactly the car you want. So wait on that process until you're back for good.

It's been my experience that there are usually a few garage queens out there with low mileage and great upkeep even three or fours years after purchase. So waiting a year shouldn't be much of an issue.

Use the money you save on storage, insurance, etc. during these next 12 months to pay for any travel costs associated with your search.
