Default About To Purchase 06 STI, Advice.

Hey guys, just registered and am looking for some advice on buying an 06 STI. The car has 14,500 miles and was owned buy a guy in his mid 60's. He traded in the car as it was not big enough for his needs. I have also talked to this person so I know the seller is not making a story up.

Mods are as follows.

He Powder coated the stock BBS's glossy black.

Extra set of snow tires on ASA JH3's wheels. Blizzak Tires, excellant condition.
Perrin O2 Simulator?
Down Pipe, forget brand, cost $200
Perrin Manual Boost Control Valve.
Tires are Bridgestone Potenza's.
Cold Air Intake(Will Post Brand)

He has ALL the reciepts for everything done to the car including all of the required services from the dealer. They are asking 26,770.

Cars.com: 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX Sti

I was able to take the car for a spin, the turbo is very audible(ok with that), but the one thing that cought my attention is a very loud mid tone whistle sound. This seemed to happen when I was in 5th or 6th and on the go peddle, it was quiet loud. Would this be the manual boost control?

Any suggestions to keep an eye out for?

Thanks a bunch, hopefully ill be an STI owner this week.

the turbo will be audible.

id put the MBC back to stock, and the downpipe.

its bad to run a downpipe without tuning or EM. be weary of that.

He does have all of the stock parts, so if having the downpipe and MBC is generally not a good idea on their own I would have no issues with installing the OEM stuff back on.

Gonna call the guy again right now.

How does the price look? Any idea on that whistle sound? I don't mean the rush of air blowing sound, this is really like a loud loud whistle, I have never heard any of these cars make this sound before.

No this was linked to pushing the throttle down. I just talked to the guy and he is totally 63 years old. He took the car to a local performance shop here in Peoria IL called R&T Unlimited to have all of the work done. I will most likely take it back to these guys so they can listen to it also, hopefully it will still happen.

I was only going about 60mph, would do it in at least 5th and 6th.

It also has an SPC? CAI installed. I took some pics myself, ill post them up as they are more detailed in the engine bay.

I can't find this SPC intake system on the net. Unless I have the letters wrong.

EDIT*** Looks like SPC could be Specialty Products Company? Never heard of it.

I would buy it. Return most of it back to stock. Remove ALL decals and emblems and tint the windows. STI stealth bomber style

nadaguides.com is a great resource for pricing. I would say $26.5 K is a good deal. But, $26 K would be a gooder deal.

What he says^^^^^

If it is sucking under hood hot air, it is a negative power adder. As in, it is worth exactly nothing. Even less than nothing.

Yep, thats it. Dude paid $250 for it as it has the heat shield also.
SPT High Flow Air Intake System for the WRX and STI

Are people happy with the OEM system? I would imagine it would be as Subaru would not put a suck ass system on these cars from the start.

If I buy her, ill install the OEM intake and remove that boost controller. It looks like its just an inline valve? Just remove it and connect the hose direct?

Ill have R & T look at the car and taking your guys advice install the OEM downpipe. I am a driver, so having more power does nothing for performance in my book right now. I plan on Auto-Xing this and taking her to a local road course track in Michigan. My biggest concern is that she is not messed with to much.

A lot of guys put a drop in K&N and remove the snorkel/intake silencer. Still pulls in cool air, but with just a little less restriction.

A good CAI is pretty good as well.
