Default New STI Owner!!!

Hi All, I just took delivery of my new 2008 SSM STI with BBS last Friday. I have never owned a Subaru before, but I have researched this vehicle on this forum & elsewhere for quite some time. Prior to this car, I had a heavily modified 1996 Mustang Cobra Mystic & a 1997 Mazda Miata. So, needless to say the experience of driving the STI was quite a bit different. I put a Tremec T-56 six speed transmission & 4:10 gears in the Cobra, and it was brutally fast, however it was a total exercise in control to drive. The ride was very rough due to being lowered & having different bushings, etc installed. The STI is way more forgiving to drive and pleasantly compliant by comparison. In all I love this car!!!

I have been achieved 16.8 MPG, and have put about 200 miles on the car. In regards to modifications, I have ordered a TMW shift knob, because I’ve always had metal shift knobs on my cars. I have also ordered a red LED dome light from Superlumination. They have great products, see here:
http://www.superlumination.com/ . I had installed a full blue LED interior lighting scheme on the Miata using LEDs from Superlumination.
Other than that, I don’t plan to modify the STI in any way until the warranty lapses. I got all of that out of my system with the Cobra.

I have read posts here describing how to launch / drive an AWD car. That said, I have trouble taking off smoothly, even in a gentle manner & the SI set to “I”. I am an experienced driver & have been driving a clutch all of my life. And that Cobra was like driving a tractor!!! The clutch was very heavy & stiff, and would stall harshly if not driven correctly. However, with the STI, it seems there is a bog that occurs after the clutch is released in first gear. I just need practice I guess. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This forum is a great resource, and I look forward to being part of this community.
