Default Subaru/Beetle Question?

I have a question about a mid-engine Subaru swap in my 67 Beetle?
If I mount a 2.5 to a 914 5 speed transaxle will the motor
turn the same as a 914 motor? Also will the 2.5 bolt up
to a 914 t-axle? If I wanted to use the Subie Trans? Does anyone
know what was the last year the 2.5 was made with the 2WD?

The 2.5 (EJ25x) engine has ever been mated to a 2WD car in the US, but I don't know about abroad.

And I have NO idea how to answer your other questions. I do know that the older EJ20 was a popular swap for Vanagons, so if those two VWs are similar in any way...

I've seen beetles with STi motors. Not sure what to tell you about the specific mechanics of it though.

The EJ20 was a 1.8 right? Was there a 2.2 mated to a FWD only 5 speed trans?

The last FWD cars Subaru released in America were in the early-to-mid 90s. I know the old Imprezas had that option way back when, and the SVX as well. It was only for a couple of years, though.

I'm not certain of the displacements of the various EJ20 incarnations.

I was looking to use a Subie 1.8 or 2.0 factory turbo motor with a Subie 2WD 5 speed trans axle?

You really want it mounted mid-engine? It's takes A LOT of work in a VW bug.

Why not just mount it in the rear to a type 2 or 4 tranny?

Anyways, yes, the motors turn the same direction.

No, a 914 T-axle won't bolt up to an EJ motor. You need to get an adapter plate. Here is a link to a great company : Kennedy Engineered Products

If you change your mind and choose to do a Wankel Rotary engine instead, let me know. I have the adapter plate for that

In the Chiltons 1985-96 Subaru repair manual it shows a 1.8L under "Turbocharger removal and installation"? Is the a turbo 2.0 or 2.2, if so what year model is it? And will it bolt up to a 2WD Subaru 5 speed trans?

Yes, there are a few FWD 1990- 1993 legacy 5-speeds out there. They are not very common though, since most of the FWD old legacys were using the old 4speed auto.
