Default Tired of the wrong side.

Hello all,

Quick intro. I joined this forum in an effort to understand the current generation STI better before I commit to making a purchase. My current car... an imported 1990 Nissan Pulsar GTi-R in a mild state of tune.

I'm sick and tired of sitting on the wrong side of the car, it's become an impediment to my life that my girlfriend refuses to drive it, it's time to let go of the GTi-R.

I am considering an '09 STI as a replacement, whenever they come out. I've become interested in them since the new hatchback body style has come out, I've never been one for sedan's ... In the mean time, here's a quick shot of my little rallye car from the 90's.

That is one of the coolest little cars out there, individual throttle bodies correct?

I'm a big fan of the GTi-R, what are the current specs.

Hmm, I might have to check into importing a car from canada to the US.

that's one awesome ride you got there. If i were you, i'll keep the GTi-R for the weekends and shows, then get the STI for DD, IMO.

Correct.

The SR20DET in the GTi-R is built stronger than in the Sylvia's, forged internals. This car was the rallye spec homologation for Nissan in the early 90's, so they went out of their way on a few things. The intake manifold features individual throttle bodies, and the turbo is a GT28. Drivetrain has a central VLSD and an LSD in the rear end as well. Stock spec was 237hp, not bad for 1990.

If only I had room for two cars. Since we moved we have to park on the street, I take the subway to work, and the logistics of owning two cars are killing us. We're getting rid of the Jetta daily driver, my GTi-R toy car, and replacing them with something like an STI. Best compromise there is I think!

Whatever you do, don't trade that little car in. Sell it privately. You should make quite a bit more that way.

Most definitely. I've got a buyer lined up for it actually, he's an '02 Scooby owner with a full JDM V7 STI engine and drivetrain setup. He's picking up the GTi-R as a daily driver as his STI is turning into a dedicated track car.

Besides, no dealership in their right mind would trade in an imported JDM with the steering wheel on the wrong side, running coilovers and camber plates with ball bearing end links, a quick release steering wheels and other stuff like that.

I'm going the opposite way, I need a baby and girlfriend friendly car which will still put a smile on my face. I hope the '09 STI can fit the bill. I'm waiting for that because I need a sunroof in that car (girlfriend veto).

I seriously doubt there will be a sunroof in the 09 STi unless they decide to make a Limited version.

Maybe this matter is best kept to a different thread, but my good buddy who works at one of our local Suby dealerships has given me these two hints (this is for Canadian Subaru's, not sure about US bound vehicles)

- The '09 will be available with a sunroof, in all trim levels including STI.
- There will be two STI versions, one with all options, and a track-friendly strippo edition with nav delete, climate control delete, other gadgets removed, and shave a few k$'s off the tag price.

These are rumours from dealership, who know what will actually happen when we can finally place our orders.
