Default Don`t have an STI, want to get one, which one to get?

Looking into an STI, always loved them, never could afford one till now and now I am in the market for one, preferrably a used one, couple of years old. Preferrably the 2006 and 2007, I liked the look of those the most. Anywho, looking for advice in what years to get or the best one to get. Keep in mind 04`s and 05`s are not out of the question, I really like those also.

1. What`s the best year or generation of STI to get?

2. What year/generation has the best performance, reliability, moddability?

3. Depending on the year or generation what are the most common problems with them?

Any info will help me in buying one,

Thanks in advance.

You need to do a search on here. Each year has their own problems. If I were you, I would look for a STI that was not molested with mods and beat to hell. Right there your list will shorten! I have a 07 and love it! It has longer gears and most of the bugs worked out of it. But some of them had motor problems. You need to do the research. IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE NEW 08 STI. It is always good to give it more then a year for a car manufacturer to work out the bugs!

LOL i don't even know what jbp, JAVA, CGM, FTMFW means. but thanks for the replies all the same. ok, i like the of all the generations of STI's but my favorite style is the 06 's and 07's. though i like the 08's also, don't like the performance specs that i am reading and seeing, doesn't compare to the previous generations. also what is with the 07's HP and Ft/Lb. decrease on the spec sheets?

judging by this thread seems as though mostly all years are loved. i understand that they all have their problems just like all cars do, but are these problems big(i.e. engine transimission problem big), or are they little ones(i.e. not enough cup holders, or i don't like where this switch is located, little)?

i don't really care about the little problems that are generally cosmetics in nature or are relatively cheap and easy to fix. i'm more worried about getting any one of these years and then finding out that the turbos, or the engine, transmissions are prone to going on these or particular years. also what i wouldn't like to happen is an annoying little part that's prone to going, even though it might be cheap to replace that part, but the actual replacing of that part will cost a lot of money, because you have to take the engine out or something that would make it costly.

thanks.
