I have the carfax if you have any questions.

Also, why is the license plate all bent on it? (in the ad pictures)
You have the actual carfax for that car?

Autocheck doesn't show anything negative, for what that's worth.

Keep in mind, however, what Andrew said...the car actually has >70k miles. The engine may only have 500, but the odometer and CarFax / Autocheck reports are going to show way more.

What shop do you recommend I get the car checked out at? Because I'll do whatever necessary to make sure theres no hidden tricks to this car before I buy. The car is still in the shop, so I didn't get to drive it, only sit inside. So it's not going anywhere, and he said there are no other buyers. So I'm safe and I have time.

I would just take it to another Subaru dealership. They know what to look for.

Just go test drive it. It's a no brainer if its that close to you. But I highly doubt it has 500mi. on it, maybe 5,000 which is still insane for an '04. Good luck!

Well the CarFax showed 70K miles on it. And today when I asked how many miles it had/the rest of the car minus the new 2007 engine has. He happened to say around 70K. I'm still waiting to test drive it. It is still in the shop, like I said. All I had time for was to sit in it, feel the clutch and move through the gearbox. Tomorrow, I am going back to take pictures and talk more about the deal and find out more in depth about the car. I won't fully know until I test drive it. And like "chargedvette02" said, I'm going to take it to the nearest Subaru dealership and have them take a look at it.

Exactly. I really can't do much more until it is out of the shop. Tomorrow I am going back and taking pictures of everything for you all to see.

Bump for any more suggestions/comments? I see it again in 4-5 hours when I get off work, and will post up pictures here afterwards.

Ok so heres an even more updated situation. The ad that says 500 miles is bull**** and always was, it was just to attract attention. The car has 70K on the internals and the old engine. I just got back from the shop, and this time I was with the manager and not the guy selling it, so I asked him a few questions expecting answers to the mysterious things about the car. First off, the guy who is selling it is a salesman who buys and sells cars all the time, so that is why he only owned it for such a short time and is selling it. He has to fix up the engine anyway, but the manager told me that it was a ***** and there was a timing belt that slipped loose, so the manager said to buy a whole brand new engine or get out. So there will be a 2007 STi engine with 2007 Heads/manifold going in. The rest is 3" DP with XS turbo back exhaust stainless steel. On the cars.com ad, he has lowered the price from 23500 to 21500. The manager said the only other thing was the clutch was ok, but could be better. He advised buying a new stock one for $500 and he can order and install it while its still in the shop if I'm serious about buying it. I told him, I'll hold off until I can test drive it and its out of the shop, and I would then bring it back for a new clutch. Otherwise, me and my friend agree its a ****ing steal for 21,500 or less with the light 04 body style and the new 07 engine + manifold. However, since the guy is shady and been confirmed as a used car salesman, I'm still unsure. What do you guys think?

Other than the fact, hes a used car salesman. What other reason do you have behind me saying forget this one?
