Default Starting to look for a new car... lots of q's

Well a little background:
i drive a 2003 dodge ram 5.7L hemi, exhaust and what not... details to many to list.
anyway yeah gas is going to 4$ a gallon and i need a more gas efficient car... so the STI is an idea of a way out of the 10.6 mpg from the truck... ANYWAY on to the many questions....
1: i see a lot about the power packages for a little over 1000... what is the install on that run?
2: general labor: STI's run about 75/hour like everything else? (except audi which is like 130/hour)
3: what is the "throaty"-est exhaust for the best value (i.e. i am not loaded)
4: what do blow-offs and turbo accessories usually run pricewise--keep in mind i am not familiar with turbo's whatsoever so i wouldnt even know what i need to get the "pssst" sound (hehe)

newbie to sedans/turbos- yes
newbie to nice cars...
no.

and i know you guys can easily answer these questions and i really do appreciated you taking the time to read through this and answer
1 last thing... the STI is in the running with:
Audi S4 -- 2003(ish)
Vovlo S60 R -- 2004-2006
(all used of course)
and the STI for an '05-'06 hopefully

Welcome
install for stage 2, dunno, its easy enough to do it yourself (downpipe and catback, stage 2 reflash usually done w/ Cobb's Accessport)
Labor is anywhere from 80-90 an hour i've seen here in Colorado
Exhaust is a whole different can of worms.... angled muffler (pumpkin cannon)? or something that looks closer to stock w/ the same sound? full 3"? 2.5" 3" w/ a minor 2.5" taper? exhaust is such a dubious question because there are too many....
Price-wise on a blow off valve? (yes its the pssst sound between shifts) depends on how much it will cost to get your motor rebuilt.... our cars dont take well to intakes or blow off valves..... if you get some sort of engine management, like Cobb Accessport, then you can get it professionally tuned to accomodate for an intake and Blow off valve, but if your not tuned for it, stay away from these...
as for what STi... they changed the body style from 05 - 06...
basically, Welcome, go through the threads in the forum and read the stickies, there are alot of questions already answered.....
use the search engine because again, your probably not the 1st person with whatever question you have....
Engine management is basically a must with our cars....
hmmmm, welcome, stickies, search, no bov / intake w/out tune.... dunno what im forgetting lol, welcome and enjoy

if you know you want a large, rotated mount turbo as an end product w/ a built motor, do your best to plan well so you dont have to sell things down the road..... do PLENTY of research on a mod before you buy it

i am definitely not looking to rebuild the engine. i am looking for basic purchases + 1-2hours labor (if i cant do it myself)

and i like the pumpkin cannon lol its different (i swear i saw like a 6inch once it was HUGE) but i started looking and it seems like invidia downpipe v3 + HKS exhaust is a nice combo looking for opinions because i obviously am just guessing

Same as most other cars. A downpipe and exhaust install is about a 3 hour job. Be aware that, if you do a downpipe or full turbo back exhaust (TBE), you will need engine management and/or a tune.

See above.

You need to do a little searching in the Engine/Power forum. You'll find lots of options if you're patient.

The sticky threads in the engine forum contain a thread that is pretty exhaustive (pardon the pun) regarding BOVs and why they're bad on most STis. If you don't have a large turbo, you do NOT want a BOV.

What do you mean by "in the running with?" If you're asking if it's faster, then 100% yes on the Volvo and I don't know on the Audi. I know very little about ze Germans. If you're asking if the STi is in their class, no. Both of those cars are for more luxurious than the STi.

well from the reviews i have been seeing by auto magazines and whatnot and searching just about the cars, those 3 are in the same category. yes the others are "luxury sports cars" that are lower end, but when it comes to power and performance they are all compared directly to the STi thats what i was saying

when i say "in the running with" it comes down to which car i can convince to my dad is the safest and for the most part fuel efficient. i assume i can get away with regular 87 octane in the STi vs. premium or 89 octane in the audi/vovlo (although i would love to put premium in the STi)

The STi is very safe. I would put it ahead of the Volvo, personally, just for the B-pillars.

And you absolutely should not EVER run 87 octane in an STi. 91 Octane would be the bare minimum.
