Default Old guy - new to forum

Bought an '07 STI last November - had a blast with it over the winter and just ran my first track day at Mid Ohio this past weekend - so I thought it was about time I introduced myself to the group and said hello.

So.......hello.

The car is bone stock - at least for now.

The track time was great! It was supposed to rain all day so decided to take the STI. When the track was wet I was the king. The only car that passed me was a twin turbo AWD Porsche. Once the track dried out I was suffering. The tires are great in the wet - but not good track tires in the dry.

No decent pics yet.

Welcome old guy I am almost 41, and there are quite a few older STI owners here on this forum. Mid-Ohio is a awesome track! I have done four DE's, the last being in 05 with my last car a EVO MR. I used to be a family member with the PCA, but my dad sold his turbo, so I have to find another way to get cheap track time. Are you a BMWCCA, or a PCA member? How does the STI compare on the track with other cars you have driven on the track?

Take care,
Matt

Thanks for all the 'welcomes'. I've done a few events with various PCAs - but mostly with NASA. NASA is great. They allow more passing and don't require an instructor to ride with you after you get a bit of experience. They offer a good program if you think you want to race one day. Most of my track events were in a Z06. They are totally different cars but I've seen some lap times that are similar. For me last week the biggest difference was in the rain. The Vette is a real hand-full in the rain. Almost scary. The STI rules in the wet. I felt confident - almost invincable - in the STI as soon as I first drove it. The Vette takes some learning. I grew up in the '60s and '70s, so I love the deep sound of detroit iron (I guess it's detroit aluminum now...), but fast is fast. The two biggest differences on the track were the brakes and tires. The Vette's brakes are much more agressive and, in the dry, the STI needs much stickier tires. To be far though, my Z06 is a bit track prepared.

What kind of tires are you guys using for the track and at auto crosses?

Welcome. My dad has been racing in the PCA/BMWCCA/FCA/IMSA for nearly 30 years, and got me into it. Autocrossing is currently my niche. Many guys run the Bridgestone Potenza RE0-1R on the track/auto-x/DD. The new Dunlop Direzza Sport is also a favorite.
