Default Newbie question on term "bump"

I keep seeing posts that say "bump" can someone tell me what that means? I see it in the classifieds section of the website.

Whenever a new post is made in a thread, it is listed at the top of that forum section. "Bump" is just a way to make sure people see that thread towards the top of the thread list even though there hasn't been a real comment made in the thread.
