Ok, so I finally decided to get all my images and receipts together and start a journal. This is my first Subaru, first AWD, first new car, first sports car... well, you get the picture.

I bought my STI back in November of 2011. I wasn't even planning on buying a car. I was just visiting a friend that worked at Camelback Volkswagen, Mazda, Subaru in Phoenix. We were just supposed to go have lunch and catch up when I walked past this...

...then I walked over to see this one.

...and then I immediately walked back and test drove this one.

I'm not knocking the 'blurple', it's just not my cup of tea.

Anyhow, two days later I was driving away in my '11 SWP STI sedan. I wasn't even going to buy a car. Hell, I wasn't even in the market. I had an '01 Suburban and I was fine with it... until my buddy talked me into taking that white STI for a test drive.

As you can imagine, I got the mod-bug within 1,500 miles. I broke her in gently... ok, no I didn't. I never took her over 6K rpm, even though the manual says 4K.

Anyhow, before I get started with the mod list, I'd like to thank Goodspeed Performance Labs for all the work and sound advice they've given me, as well as Clark Turner of Clark Turner Tuning for my stage 1, 2+ & E85 tunes. Car runs so good, never a single issue. Thanks guys.

Ok, car was obviously stock with the exception of the following dealer installed options:

SPT Short Throw Shifter
SPT Rear Carbon Fiber Trunk Panel
Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror
Footwell Illumination Kit - Red (This could be stock, so I may be wrong here)

Here's the journal through each stage...

11/28/11: First oil change / alignment (car was pulling right) @ 1957 miles
11/30/11: Stage 1 @ approx. 2000 miles

Difference was immediately noticeable. Soooo much fun. However, I was getting revved on at every stop light by every POS Honda on the road. So I decided it was time to lose the spoiler. Also, the power bug was beginning to creep back up. :eek2:

01/06/12: Trunk Parts
Stock Impreza Trunk Lid
Stock Impreza Trunk Release Torsion Bars
TS Spoiler (from Japan)

At this point I was waiting for my all stage 2 parts to come in. So I had the Impreza trunk lid and TS spoiler sent off to paint match via Goodspeed Performance Labs. Once those were done, and all the parts came in, we went a full stage 2+.

2/2/12: Scheduled 7,500 mile oil change (Royal Purple 5w30) @ 8,100 miles
2/9/12: Stage 2+ @ approx. 8,500 miles

Car had noticeably more power in the lower rpms and held it a hell of a lot longer. Unfortunately, I was only able to enjoy this tune for about a week, before an Eclipse with a coffee can for an exhaust tip pulled on me from 60 - 100. I had my (ex)girlfriend in the car and was embarrassed to say the least. I just looked over at her and said, "I'm calling Goodspeed on Monday." Of course, the logical next step was E85.

I don't remember the actual date, but somewhere in here I purchased the TMIC splitter from www.subtlesolutions.com.

As for power/tq mods, this is where the car stands now. It's so damn fast. So far the power bug hasn't come back yet. However, the appearance bug has got me know. So, here's what i did next...

3/22/12: Stock Enkei Wheels Powder Coated (using Subaru SWP paint code)

Now, given that my first NASAAZ event (HPDE1) had led me to boil my brake fluid, it was time to upgrade the brakes. I found a set of DBA5000 rotors for the front and a set of GiroDisc 2pc. for the rear in the classifieds over at www.iwsti.com. They were great.

My next track day was NASAAZ's event at INDE Motorsports Ranch on May 5-6th. I ran HPDE2 and the brakes were amazing. Huge difference. Fluid, rotors and pads changes everything when it comes to being able to stop at the track. Thanks again Goodspeed. My power and torque is still all there. Not a single car was able to make a pass on me. I'm pushing 23 pounds of boost with zero knock. The tune is amazing. Thanks again to Clark Turner.

I've got suspension mods and probably a set of Perrin spacers coming up next. Then who know. I'll keep this journal up to date the best I can. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post.

Thanks,

In March of 2011, I picked up a 2008 STI with about 25k miles on the odo. This was my first time owning a subaru but always liked the STI. I've owned a few cars and all have been modified mildly to moderately. My list of cars i've owned: 73 porsche 914, 91 acura integra, 93 Lexus GS300, 00 VW Jetta vr6, 03 Audi A4 1.8t quattro, and a 63 vw panel bus which I still own, (don't think I'll ever get rid of her).

My STI came with a sport grill, tint all around, then later found out there was a rear perrin sway bar already on the car.

I then picked up (not all at once)...

used borla exhaust from a fellow member,
BC Racing coils from Import Image Racing,
Blue Batmobile taillight and fog light overlays,
Perrin shorty antenna from ebay,
18x 9.5 +35 Enkei Raijin in gunmetal from Arista Performance, wrapped in
255 35 18 Hancook ventus v12
Led bulbs for interior, license plate, and reverse lights

So after about 15 months I just hit 50k miles and this is how she stands today.
Also I want to add that the front fenders are rolled, Rear fenders are shaved. Running a 5mm spacer in the front. Alignment was done by West End Alignment. F 1.25- 0 toe, R 2.7- 1/16" toe in. West End also performed the corner balance on the car. I don't have any rear control arms yet and didn't use camber bolts. The =2.7 camber was obtained from lowering the car that low. Chris at west end added the toe to help a bit with tire wear. The guys at West End are awesome, some of you in the L.A area already know.
Next mod in line is a Cobb AP, and invidia catted dp, maybe an intake.
Also really liking the WC Lathewerks shift knob and drive dial. I'm really enjoying car so far. I drive about 70 miles to work and back, but it's mostly a fun 70 miles.

I am planning for AP, stage 2, autocross, and track days, but the ringland issue and SOA's warranty denials have me scared. I haven't made the decision to "pay to play" just yet. For now, I am super happy with the upgraded handling, power will be next.

General

I have been shopping for an STI for about a year now and finally grabbed one, Dark Gray Metallic 2012 STI 5dr (5/8/12). This is my first Subaru and first "Performance Car". I was driving a '98 Nissan Maxima until a few years ago and have been driving a used Suburban that I picked up to haul kids and crap around while looking for something that would be fun.

Like I mentioned in the title I am one of the older guys with an STI (37) and this it is generally a DD so this will not be a thread about an STI getting to 600+ WHP and going "full retard". I do plan to have a bit of fun with the car and will probably do more aggressive things to it once it gets a few miles on it.

Here is the STI stock

Goals

I want to have fun with the car without blowing to much stuff up. Initially the mods i have planed are mostly cosmetic to get the car looking like I want and fixing some stuff that SOA does that I think is stupid. Later once I get some miles on it I do plan on doing more performance mods, mainly intake/exhaust & tune. After I get close to running the warranty out or close enough to not care maybe upgrade the fuel system, TMIC, aftermarket turbo, etc. focusing on quick not fast shooting for something that spools up quick and does 300-325WHP. I also want to do things to the car that fall into the "easy to operationally maintain" rather than pushing limits or making the car not fun to use as a DD.

THE MOD LIST

Figured after lurking on these boards for a while, I should start a journal. Could be a useful tool in keeping track of... oh who am I kidding? I want a place to show case all the money I've spent on this money pit. Your approvals (or not) will validate this expensive hobby and help make some sense of my empty wallet

This car is my first turbo'd car I've ever owned. And as such, I made some mistakes with modding that really caused me much more headache then I care to mention. Needless to say I eventually got hit with the Subaru special tuning mod aka "broken ringland in piston #4". And Yimisport tuning made everything right again. The car doesnt have a single exterior mod, save for the sharkfin on the roof and bluebats tailight red tints, so excuse the lack of glamour shots. If you've seen a AWP GR hatch, you've seen my car.

Mod list:

Engine
JE Forged pistons 99.5
ARP head studs
Scat H beam rods
ACL main and rod bearings
Deatschwerks 750cc Injectors
AEM 3.5 bar map sensor
Killer Bee Ultimate oil pickup
Grimmspeed ported coated - intake manifold / TGV deletes / throttle body
Grimmspeed EBCS
Yimisport Air/Oil Seperator
Injen CAI
Agency Power 3" turbo inlet
Air pump delete
Synergy 20G turbo
Gruppe S UEL headers
Gruppe S (i think?) catless downpipe
Greddy Ti-C single exit exhaust
Coolingmist CMGS meth injection

Suspension
KW V3 Clubsports
RCE sways f/r
RCE steering bushings
Whiteline RCA

Transmission
ACT Full Face Clutch
TWM Short shift
TWM knob (forget which exactly, gunmetal globe looking thing)
Cobb (i think...) shifter bushings
Cusco engine and tranny mounts

Protuned by Yimisport. 400whp 430wtq.

Annnnnd, I'm spent.

The car is make-my-neighbors-hate-me-loud, vibrates like a shiatsu massager, drones like no other, shoots fireballs out its backside, and is my excuse at being a hooligan even as I approach my mid thirties. Thanks to this forum and its vendors for the great deals I've gotten on some of these parts. And also for the endless amount of info I've gotten from its members.

2010 WRB/gold rims (imo as it should be but that is personal preference) Had it since April of 2010 and until today just had the SPT exhaust on it, which in my opinion sounds pretty nice. After a few hours at work I made an impromptu trip to IAG Performance in Maryland and had originally planned on just pricing out the cost of a cold air intake and the Cobb Tuning access port, however about 20 seconds before I walked through the door I made up my mind and decided to just go for it. You only live once, right?!

So to kick off this mod list:
-SPT catback exhaust
-AEM cold air intake
-COBB Tuning Access Port

And here is to more mods in the future! (Hopefully looking to get the STi to 400 RELIABLE HP on pump gas [93 Octane]).

Hi my name is Jeff. This is going to be the journal for my upcoming project. It will probably recieve a lot of criticism for some choices I make but we'll see.
I will be doing all the wrenching and tuning on the car and I'm sure a couple friends will probably help with some of the wrenching too. Overall I like to be the one to work on my car and I pretty much hate having anyone else touch it. Thats actually the reason I learned to tune. I may not be the best mechanic ever but I'm not an idiot and no one else cares about your car as much as you so might as well do it yourself. In my opinion of course. So with the exception of fabricating and machining it should mostly be all my work.
I welcome advice/criticism etc.

This is the 2005 Sti I had prior to this one. I got rid of it because I liked the widebody hatch and some design changes for the car. It was stage 2 and had RCE black springs on it. I took the struts apart and fixed the clunking when I installed them. I was going to college while I had it and I didn't have the funds to do anything else to it but the car was a lot of fun.
Here's a pic of my car as it sits currently. Other than wheels it won't look a whole lot different than this. Sorry for the crappy quality pic. There will be better ones later

First of all a big hello to everyone in this wonderful forum. My name is Rodney and I never formally introduced myself when I registered in February this year. Been lurking since the start of the year to gather much needed information before deciding to take the plunge getting a STi. Thought about starting a journal back then but never really got down to doing it until now. Got my STi on 10.02.2012 so it's about 3 months now.

A little background about me. I'm originally from Singapore. Borne and bred there until recent times. I'm currently working and living in Zurich, Switzerland and have been doing so for the past 4 years. English is my first language so I'm pretty comfortable conversing and writing it.

So on to the cars. Never really owned a "powerful" car in the past. My first was a crazy little '91 Mazda 121. Then a '92 Mitsubishi Colt hatch which handled very well despite the lack of power. Moved on to a '04 Honda Jazz which was a really fuel efficient fella.

Then I moved to Switzerland in 2008. Enjoyed the excellent public transport system for awhile, before my gf and I decided that it would be great to get a car to travel around on the weekends and for long holidays. We both liked to have a Mini Cooper so we went ahead to grab a '07 Laser Blue Mini Cooper S.

Very fun car to zip around with. Lightweight with quick steering and packs a punch. Drove it for around a year. Then the lack of cargo space and tiring go cart feeling on long drives finally got to me. That's when I decided to look around for a car that throws a bigger punch, is more practical in terms of cargo space and less tiring to drive.

No offence meant with this being a STi forum, but to be honest I've always wanted an EVO. But in terms of practicality, the STi stood out for me. Especially since the 2008+ models come in the hatchback form with rear fold-down seats. Throw in SI Drive + AWD so what more could I ask for?

Took me only 1 week to locate what I wanted. Found a 05/2011 SSM STi hatch at a nearby used car dealer. Deal done within 3 days with my Mini traded in. The car is totally stock and as good as new having been driven only 9,000km in 9 months. Initial impression is very satisfying. Comfortable ride for such a performance car and road noise is surprisingly well suppressed for a Japanese car.

Very happy with the newfound "power" but not so much with the steering and handling feel. With the warranty good for another 2.5 years I have no plans for power mods. The biggest concern from the beginning is to improve the handling characteristics. And I have been gradually doing so over the past 3 months.

I'm not a hardcore modder so things will go slow and easy. Just happy to have the car looking good and to improve the handling. The following will be a list of current mods and intended future upgrades ...

Decided to start a journal since i realized how much other members journals have helped me out. This is my first Subaru, and i bought it after riding around with my buddy in his WRX and my ex-girlfriends Impreza. I test drove a 2010 WRX while visiting my ex in Canada and decided I wanted to buy a Subaru. I did a ton of research on my websites but mostly iwsti. I became really good at using the search function and found that most of my questions had been answered. I contacted a few Washington dealerships and found one that I really liked, Chaplins. I never test drove an STI nor did i ever step foot into the dealership. I purchased through the internet sales guy and it was one of the best car buying experiences of my life.

On March 31, 2012 I picked up my 2012 SWP STI and drove an STI for the first time. One of the major reasons i went with the STI over the WRX was because I knew I would always regret not getting an STI if i had gone with the WRX. I love the STI and i'm happy with my purchase.

As much as I want to Mod the hell out of this car... I'm trying my best to resist the temptation until my warranty is up, which seems like a long time from now. I've decided to focus on mods that will not result in warranty denial in the event that something happens.

I have been on iwsti for quite some time. When I first started, I just purchased a 06 STi.. I've had my ups and downs with that car and I love every single moment with that car. i had it for 6 years and it took me about 4 1/2 years to get it to to where I want it to be. But my dreams of owning one of my dream cars crush when it was stolen from me back in December of 2011. Till this day I miss that car. but had to move on. I took over my dad's 08 OBS and kept it as a DD. But the urge to get behind another boxer turbo car was killing me. I look into a 2012 STi but after talking it out with the dealer it was just not going to work. The next couple of days pass and the dealer called me and ask me will I be interested in a 2012 WRX. At first, I wasnt sure but a went to go look at it. I gave it a couple of looks, I sat in it, played with it, just to see it will suit me after coming from a STi.

So after I was done, I decided to go for it. Everything in paper work went my way this time and I was happy with the outcome. I've had the car since monday and so far the break in process been enjoying.
