Hey guys first time posting here. Happy to report that I got a white, 2012 sti hatch today! I'm starting to realize that its a pretty rare car, since it was literally the only white hatch I could find here in California haha. I'm extremely happy with the car so far and can't wait to break in this motor so I can see what its got. Very excited to be a part of the of the Subi family. Always liked the enthusiasm there is between fellow owners.

Almost ever since I have owned the car, the car has burned oil. Recently it's been about 1qt/1000 miles. I know that this is technically within factory spec but just like every other wrx/sti owner who tends to be anal, this always seemed like too much for me. The car currently has 74,000 miles on it.

Recently, the car has been puffing out blue smoke, but only under very specific conditions that I can replicate. The car has to be warm (so no cold start oil burning), has to have been sitting for a couple of minutes or so, and then needs to be started back up while still warm (imagine sitting at a drive through window, waiting for someone to order turning off your car to save gas, and then starting it again when they are finished). The car's idle will then drop to near stalling around 500 rpms, some white smoke will start coming out of the exhaust, and when I give it gas, puffs of blue smoke will appear as well, and then the car will come back to it's "regular" idle, hunting around 1000 rpms due to my injectors. The car is tuned for and is running e85 currently and I am also running Deathschwerks 1100cc sidefeed injectors (which are known culprits of poor idle, misfires, and poor driveability). I have done the poormans compression test in the past and there was no white smoke coming from my oil filler cap.

Because of these recently noted issues, I decided that a leakdown and compression test would be in order and would be the advice everyone would tell me to do in order to get some definitive answers to my problems. After taking my car to my mechanic to get the results my cars numbers leave me more confused then before I decided to get the numbers checked.

Cylinder 1: 100 psi
Cylinder 2: 112 psi
Cylinder 3: 110 psi
Cylinder 4: 103 psi

Now the numbers are very low and possibly related to a cold compression test, but somewhat close together, I know they're not the ideal 5% together but they also aren't the definitive 20%-40% differences everyone sees with a blown ringland (although still a possibility, as I am not in denial like most people ).

The most confusing part is that the car had ZERO leak down on ALL cylinders. Which would lead me to believe that the turbo seals in my car are the culprits of the burning oil and puffs of blue smoke, at least this is what I am hoping as I would rather replace (upgrade) my turbo instead of spending a ton on a built block.

Any insight and suggestions to deal with my problem and to help pinpoint the problem would be greatly appreciated. I have already scheduled a date with my tuner for the probability of it being my turbo as the only way to tell if it was my turbo on the way out would be to remove it, and since I would already be there removing the turbo I would just upgrade to a new one anyway.

tl;dr
-car burns oil
-car is running crappy injectors on e85 with tune
-car has puffs of blue smoke
-whacky compression numbers
-0% leakdown even though compression was low

Roll bar, seats, harness and my headache

I never thought it would be so difficult to get a aftermarket racing seat, harness, brackets and harness bar.

I went through so many vendors...

I never thought it would be so difficult to get a aftermarket racing seat, harness, brackets and harness bar.

I went through so many vendors trying to figure this out. I called Sparco directly, OG Racing, Racing seats USA, etc... etc...

A lot of the vendors did not have the seats in stock with some exception. I was leaning towards the Recaro's but no one seemed to have the brackets for the car. I was told on many times that they are special order parts. I got the impression that the brackets are hard to find to mount seats.

The harnesses seem easy to get and possibly the harness bar is easy to get.

Then I talked to a pretty smart rep from OG Racing. He was a HPDE instructor. He said I was asking for a lot of trouble if I didn't get at least a roll bar. Installing a seat, harness and ONLY a harness bar was like asking to use my head and neck to be the roll bar. Someone else mentioned that on here too in another thread. So, I am convinced I need to slow this process down. I was trying to get everything done before my first HPDE at Thunderbolt next weekend.

So, my big dilemma is figuring out where to go for this roll bar. I imagine for a roll bar it can't be an easy install, and I am not going the 4-5k roll cage route right now.

I am in MA. He referred me to Flatout Motorsports, and I had been talking to HMS Motorsports. Flatout is much closer to me, but I guess my big question is... how easily can I get this roll bar put in, and what should I expect it to cost? Can my mechanic install something like this (if ordered) or should I go to specific installer? This whole process has taken a lot of time and has felt like searching for a needle in a haystack. Why is this so difficult? I guess not to many people are doing this???

Also, The OG rep told me that the foam collars that go under your helmet are useless. I've used them at F1 gokarting and they seemed legit to me. Any thoughts on this?

With how much people complain about our seats... I never thought this would be such a nightmare.
