Default Powerflow splashguards

I am tired of getting streaks of dirt on the side of my car everytime I go through a small puddle. I do not like the trucker look of the rally type mud flaps. So I got these universal ones for $15 a pair from my local Pep Boys. I used model #1 for the front and rear. The splashguards only came with self tapping screws which I did not use. I went to my local hardware store and got:

x10 1/4" (or #14) speednuts.
x10 #14 1" phillip panhead screws.
x10 1/4" zinc flat washers.

from Auto parts store:
3M double sided tape.

I replaced the three front trim fastners with the screws and nuts I bought. The rears only required two set of screws and nuts each. I had to do a little trimming on the bottom of the front splashguards due to a protrusion that prevented the splashguard to sit flat against the car. I used a heat gun to have the sides sit flush with the body. I also used double sided tape to hold the top edges.

Trimmed here.

Front flap.

Rear shot.

They work pretty good for normal sized puddles.

Not bad! Fits pretty well for Pep Boys stuff! Some black paint to cover up the screws would really make it look quality.

they look good, but I would worry about dirt and grime getting clumped up in the gap shown in pic 5. I really like the do it yourself mods, I can't see spending almost $100 for mudflaps-which are just 4 peices of cut rubber and some bolts, that is too damn much.
nice job!

I had these splashguards on my previous car and there was no problem with stuff getting in there. Once in awhile you should remove them to clean and wax under there.

Ya those $100 flaps are fugly in my opinion on a street car. It looks like they are missing the chrome naked lady on them! If you go offroading/rallying with your car then those fit the bill though. My car only sees tarmac

Well it's finally raining and the splashguards work pretty good!

I have the biga$$ fastline mudflaps on my car, they look just like what's on the WRB STi in this thread.

These are good for keeping rocks and heavy objects from bouncing into the side of the car, but rain and mud still gets on the side of the car - even right behind the flaps. Why, you ask? Because the water droplets are small and light enough be carried by the wind that swirls around your mudflaps. Wherever the wind swirls, so does the water and the mud that blows around with it.

I'm still keeping my flaps on, they keep rocks and slow speed puddles off of the side of the car, and they hint at the rally heritage of STi, so they look cool too.
