The only way to truly correct it would be to re-engineer it.
To make it more multi-compressor cover friendly, you would need to cut the tube back a bit & redesign the coupler to be longer so you would have more play with inlets that are over further.

On another note:
I was over at Precision Tuning today comparing the new Perrin Inlet which is supposed to be 6 layers of silicone opposed to 5 (as they told me by e-mail) next to my old one which collapsed.
There was NO visual difference at all, there appeared to be 4 rows of stitching on each of them when you looked at the cut away on the side. Hmmmm....

According to reviews I've seen the new one feels MUCH more rigid than the old. As in you could never mistake one for the other. Was that the case?

Not to dig up old poop, but I stated earlier my prediction of lack of support from APS concerning this issue.

This coupler is probably the most contrary-to-performance and reliability aftermarket piece I have on my car.

Sorry to hear it Al.

I could not feel or see a difference AT ALL. "Maybe" the new one I have is from old stock.

Why don't people just use a Samco turbo inlet? It supposedly has a steel wire inside of it specifically to prevent collapsing.

I have not heard about the wire reinforcement before, but have heard of people having issues of it collapsing as well.
I will research that further.

Here is a good thread over on nasioc about collapsing inlets:
Wanted: _First-Hand_ experience with a collapsing silicone turbo inlet - Page 3 - Factory 2.5L Turbo Powertrain - NASIOC

The % of Samco collapses are less than the Perrin unit, but when I heard the raves about the newer Perrin unit being thicker....I (maybe mistakenly) looked no further.

hey Al - just a thought...

if a tube collapses from the top, more often than not, the sides have to expand out in order to accommodate the top "falling" down.

if you were to wrap the outside of the tube with something strong, it will prevent that kind of collapse.

maybe you should try putting some bands around the outside of the inlet will keep it from collapsing.

I was going to put my old one on with 6 HD hose clamps around it, probably whichever one I use I will put the hose clamps on as well as a safe guard.

But yea, good idea.
