Default Heat Shields

Not sure where to post this, its not Engine/Performance, but its not solely bought for cosmetics either. Did some searching and need your assistance. So far Ive found 3 Heat Shields on the market for 2006+ STi's

SPT

Cobb

Cusco

So far the SPT is the cheapest in price @ $50, and Cusco at $69. However, lots of posts state that only the Cusco will fit on more pipes (specifically read TurboXS 4" friendly - where others required cutting). Looking for a heat shield at this time, one that functions efficiently, price not really a matter, im concerned about heat (black car, lot of driving, drag race on weekends, etc). dont have my TurboXS FMIC installed yet (they forgot to ship 15 hose clamps), so not sure what else I will run in to. any info is greatly appreciated

I went with the SPT. It bolts up using the TMIC bolt so it doesn't matter what dp you have and is in addition to the stock heat shield. You can definitaly tell a difference in temp by feel.

The Cobb heatshield is very popular. But I honestly dont think you would go wrong with any of them.

i took half a day off to get the STi heat shield on (was already in stock at a not too far dealership). to my surprise, they charged me $90 to put a bolt on (to install it). stock heat shield was already removed. . it would literally take anyone 1minute to do. to make it worse, they washed my car. if you detail your car, you know theres not many things worse than people washing your car, in the sun, and then not drying it. the heat shield was not too hot, i mean i could keep my hand on it after driving 1hour, i wouldnt keep it there, but i could for a little bit.

No. There's a good gap between the two.

For the install, I removed both TMIC bolts but left it in place. It takes literally 5 minutes start to finish. Not sure why the instructions tell you to completely remove the TMIC.
