Default COBB tuning?

Hey all,
Im new here and Im loving the support and answers Ive been getting! Thanks everyone!

Ok, here we go. I recently installed the K&N Typhoon....love it! Im going to be installing HKS Hi-power CBE, it should be easy. THen after that I need to get it tuned? or should I get a DP then tune? Im thinking DP will come later...much later. I see all this stuff about Cobb ...access port? stage 2? ...uhhh. I know Im a super newbie but can someone shed some light on this? or link me somewhere? Theres so much to do on these beasts, I just wanna do it right. Thanks in advance!

This information is widely available, but...

You don't really need a tune until you get a downpipe. Otherwise, you can use the AccessPort and flash Stage 1. Stage 2 requires a full turboback and a flash. A tune (aka protune) is normally a fine-tuning of the off-the-shelf (OTS) stage 2 map.

Search the Engine Forum and its SubForums for more details. Read the stickies there. That's the basics, though.

Isn't stage 2 minimum requirement is just a DP?

To the original poster: I would get the DP before you get an exhaust system. The stock unit flows pretty good, plus it's not as loud or flashy as some aftermarket units. Then get tuned.

The Typhoon/DP/Stage 2 is a pretty good combo, which I'm running right now.

Yes, as far as I've read.

You'll see more power this way for sure.

Cobb is a very good and popular engine management system. If you don't feel like you want stage 2 (with downpipe) at this moment, then just flash to stage 1 and run that for awhile. You'll be pretty happy with the power even at stage 1. But if it were me I would just do the whole shibang and do the whole exhaust (downpipe + catback) at once since you're going down there anyway. You can always get a custom pro-tune if you want even more power out of the stock snail.

Yea the DP will unleash the most power and they're usually cheaper that a CBE. But it's usually suggested to get an Accessport before you do any mods. I got the AP first before I did anything then went stage 2 when I got all of my parts in.

And before you ask about downpipes, take a look at Helix or Invidia .

Get the accessport first. Then get the downpipe later. The COBB Tuning accessport is a device that changes your fuel mixtures, lists check engine light codes (CEL's), etc. I think it also increases your boost pressure 14.5 psi to 16.0 psi. The stage 1 map is for stock or after-market catback exhaust (i.e. stock downpipe is still installed) and the stage 2 map is developed for a turboback exhaust, where an after-market downpipe with or without a catalyst, has been installed.

It's easy to install. If you can plug your pc into the wall and turn it on, you should be able to install the accessport.
