Bumping and old thread as I have been looking for this same info for a while. I will keep searching, but I found this on Nasioc just a minute ago.

The best recorded data I've ever seen came from Sport Compact Car on their project WRX. They added a APS TMIC with the APS splitter and did a number of tests including dyno before, dyno untuned, dyno tuned, heat-soak core temps in 0-3 minute intervals and temps on the dyno. I will try to break the data down.

Untuned with the APS TMIC installed the car actually lost power (239/198 vs 245/216). When tuned the results were 246/217 (yes only +1 gain at peak but with 12 whp and 10 ftlbs gains through the mid range).

The APS heatsoaked much slower than the Stock IC the stock starting at 112 degrees and running up to 136 after 3 minutes while the APS started at 107 degrees and hit 115 after 3 minutes. The intercooler temps on the dyno were similar with the stock starting at 98 degrees at 2,000 rpms and hitting 147 at 7,000 rpms with the APS 91 at 2,000 and 130 at 7,000.

Now, this was comparing the stock WRX TMIC not the STi TMIC so you will have to draw your own conclusions there.
Edit: Also when searching Nasioc.. I am running into more for sale threads on the APS TMIC more than anything else... food for thought?!

Problem is many people have the older APS TMIC's. The newer redesigned in 2006 SR375 model have been great thus far.

I'm actually going to be doing this exact same thing soon. I'm ordering my catback next week and installing all of my stage 2 parts, Helix DP, AP, CatBack, and 1 step colder plugs. I'm going to get dynoed with that base stage 2 setup. I put up 248/248 as a baseline so I want to see what stage 2 gives me.

Lately I've been looking at the SSAC TMIC. It's cheap enough to throw that thing on and see what it does. I'm planning on putting it on untuned and getting dynoed without changing the original stage 2 setup and see if there are any gains from it.

Oh yea, don't get your hopes up tho. I won't be doing all of this til at least April or May.

I just bought an APS TMIC off of a guy on Nasioc. He noted that it was the old one but the measurements say otherwise. We only have one AWD dyno in state and the shop that owns it has been waiting to hook it up. It's been two weeks now so I'm not holding my breath.

My question is, what splitters are the big TMIC guys around here running? I've gotten different answers on the APS splitter. One vendor said it's been discontinued, one said they didn't know. Neither had it in stock and I can't seem to find anybody that carries it.

ZeroSports Cool Action is the direction I am leaning. That or make one out of cardboard and have a fab shop make it. I would rather buy though.

Check ebay or the Nasioc for sale threads. i think I ran into some of the yesterday in my search.

Also, what are your plans for the power mods other than the TMIC? Are you doing a tuned Stage 2 w/the TMIC.. I would love to hear your before and after results

No worries about getting my hopes up.. I wouldnt be doing the TMIC until late summer or even next spring. Def post your results though. It appears I am not the only one that is after this information.

I think you and fullerton are you the only ones I have come across that will or already have similer set ups.

Right now, the car has TBE, UTEC and the red Injen. That TMIC, meth and porting the exhaust manifold with the Buschur up pipe should be going on the car in a couple of weeks.

The clutch was slipping really badly at the drag strip yesterday. I was losing about 3 mph trap speeds because of that. I've got a sprung ACT 6 puck coming as well.

The dyno I baselined on has been sold. It was 3 hours away anyway. I should be able to provide trap speeds as a before and after though. My car has had enough passes on it, so consistency ought not be a problem.

Yo, I am thinking about getting a PDX map and asked them whether a bigger TMIC would be worth getting.

Here is what Forrest Huntington said regarding it:

"You will not see more power from the larger TMIC but it will make your power more useable. It will fight heat soak and make you power more available for you to use on warm days.

"If you would like more from your vehicle look into the larger TMIC and a
header. We use the Perrin EL header and have had great results. The Perrin
EL header gives a very nice increase to torque across the band. It does not
more the torque it just adds more. The TMIC is a great choice but some
aftermarket ones can do more harm then good. Please research carefully
before making your purchase. There should be user reviews about that TMIC
on the web. The CAI is something that is very hard to tune for. There are
only a couple of brands that we can tune for with our remote tuning maps."

Just thought I would share!!!

Jay
