Well I went through the Dyno Numbers thread. I could only find two dyno sheets of stage 2 cars with big TMIC's using the same type of dyno. I didnt think it would give a good comparison to compare a Dyno Dynamics dyno vs a Dynojet dyno run. All the cars with the same mods and tuned at the same place (SOG) and using same dyno (Dynapak) as the one with the big TMIC had an average of 300 WHP and 340 WTQ. Then the one that added the big TMIC on the same dyno made 330 WTQ and 360 WTQ. Then there was another Dynapack dyno from Tuning Factory that had the same mods as the others plus the big TMIC and headers. It made 303 WHP and 343 WTQ. So Im still not sure if the TMIC is worth the add on a VF39 setup..

It would be worthwhile to add if your tuned, the effect would be less if you just ran an OTS map. It also depends what core your looking at to upgrade. Make sure the brand you choose is a quality one, and if it's not, make sure it lines up correctly (ebay tmic issues).

I plan on going with the "new" APS TMIC. It looks like it fits great from the pics you have. I also plan on taking the APS logo off of it and respraying the STi logo for a sleeper look.

I really like that idea. How do you plan on removing it off of the intercooler without damaging the fins?

invidia v4 catted dp
winter 93 octane

power mods during second protune:
invidia g200
invidia v4 catted dp
spearco tmic
k&n typhoon w/ ru-2800 filter, extended heat shielding, and custom cold air ducting

Without meth.

With meth.

I'm now running a larger nozzle on my meth setup and am seeing 322whp and 391ft/lbs on a Spearco top mount. I like the Spearco alot and noticed a difference on the butt dyno when I changed it out before the tune.

Yup. Dynojet. The dyno that puts a smile on your face. I know they (esp Topspeeds) read on the high side but as long as the base line and the tune are done on the same one it's all good. I like torque since thats what you drive around town with and it feels plenty torquey. The meth helps alot with that since mine is set to come on at 8psi. Helps with building more torque before the snail is fully spooled. I can def feel when the meth comes on and then right after that the turbo hits full boost.

Good luck fiding this information! I have been searching for a back to back, dyno-tuned comparison of the stock TMIC vs larger TMIC and have never been able to find one Hard to fathom than there isn't a single member who hasn't upgrade their TMIC and then tuned + documented the change(s).

Seeing a HP increase would be nice but what I really want to know is how much of a pressure-drop reduction these aftermarket TMICs give. If they give back even 1psi of pressure-drop it would help a great deal with heat, spool-up time and ultimately power. Win-win

I know the butt dyno is highly inacurate. But what kind of power did you notice..? Like boost holding better, quicker spool, ect?

Well finally after searching and searching. I came up upon on a dyno of stock TMIC vs a big TMIC.

Quote from the page below..

"Bone stock:
it dynoed 245 whp and 253 w-lb-ft

*DOUBLE CATTED* Random Tech TBE:
it made 265 whp and 283 wlb-ft

Injen CAI, Walboro 255 and Ecutek:
it made 304 whp and 328 wlb-ft

EBCS and extensive tweaking (and cooling the TMIC):
it made my previous best of 347 wlb-ft (amazing for an '04) and 314 whp

We added the TXS TMIC:
and got bests at 365.5 wlb-ft and 328 whp
with a "prettiest" run for 360.0 and 324.4
(it's hard to make them pretty on the dynapack)
that was at 18.8 psi peak, tapering to 16.1 psi at redline
with the afr's FLAT at 10.9 (it worked too well, and I ran out of time to play )"

360+ wheel lb-ft 320+ whp *STOCK* Turbo

Boost seemed to hold better. I would suspect it's because of less pressure drop through the core. Turbo has to work less. No real difference in spool that I could see. The butt dyno part was just my immediate impression after the change but before my first tune.

Before the BIG TMIC

After TMIC, fuel pump

This is on a 2005 STi using UTEC measured on a Dynapak.

Thats quite a difference. Definately a worth while mod. I think he said it was under $200 shipped.

Yeah, I don't think you can really feel 15 HP difference (maybe you can) but it's one of those things that adds up....15 here, 10 there, etc...I'm planning on doing it but I'm concerned about the longevity of a el cheapo e-bay special like this.
