home made 40r kit mock up.

got the headers done... well almost. still need to put two more flex sections in, put on the other waste gate, and tig it all together. all the clearances look good with 1/4 around every thing. kind of tightly packed but it all fits and should work gate! let me know what you guys think.

Not to rain on your parade, but just make sure to support those joints. It looks like you're using thin gauged tubing which doesn't take well to the heat our engines put out. Very nice design though.

its 16 gage tubing and from all i have looked in to it that is what they all use unless you have a varry shout manafold. it all will be coated and wraped so hopfully heat wont be a problem. will have to wate and see.

yeah thats not too bad. most headers are made from that i guess. I still cant get over the gauge of tubing people use on our cars. I used to weld for a company that made ram horn style manifold for hondas and we used 8-10 gauge SS plumbing tubing. Its some thick stuff man.

Wonder what gauge APS used on their header.

I have been doing some thinking about headers and manifold issue. Last time I checked Inconel is the best material for headers/manifolds. Now we need a group buy on some exotic inconel equal length headers. The material is so awesome that no heatwrapping or thermal coating is needed. The only downside is that the raw material is quite expensive.

TIG FTW, far more superior than MIG. The penetration you get with TIG is phenominal! Not to mention its clean and looks bad ass!

Not sure what APS uses, but I'm guessing around 16 gauge. Inconel is awesome, but very expensive. Dont get me wrong if you have the proper bracing on 16 gauge piping you'll minimize cracking, since you're reducing the stress on the welds.

I remember in grade 12 auto shop i surgical with a MIG and Oxy/Ace, got some time in with the TIG too but was a lot more difficult to control. Fabbed up a intake manifold for a 3 cylinder supercharged chevy sprint (No lie thing sounded like an 8 cylinder because it had a straight pipe) with MIG. Damn school year ended just as I was getting good with it(TIG). Yeah it did look pretty bad ass though.
