I have been doing some thinking about headers and manifold issue. Last time I checked Inconel is the best material for headers/manifolds. The only downside is that the raw material is quite expensive.

A general desciprtion of inconel -->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inconel

isn't that that super thick heavy stuff? you see Honda guys using it all the time. if its what i think it is my manifold would be 100lb!

Inco comes in different guages just like any other metal. It is more dense than SS, but not so much that it would be 100lbs. The only thing I would worry about on that header is the stovepiped bends. That will be the weak point imho. Very nice work though. IDK what you do for a living, but you could make pretty damn good money as a union fitter welder esp. if you got good enough at tig to do nuke work...

Make sure you dont do any welding with the piping bolted to the turbo... you can and likely will get bearing arc. You really shouldnt weld with it attached un-insulated from the motor either. If you were worried about it pulling just get some flatbar and mimic the exhaust port bolt holes and bolt it to that for welding. You also may consider doing an argon purge on the piping for the weld, otherwise youll get porrosity from the oxygen on the inside.

I've been wanting to get a tig welder. Which one you using? Miller or Lincoln. They're pricey though $700 to in the thousands. I would just want the capablity for 421 stainless steel and aluminum. I guess I should take a class at my local community college. I would love to fabricate my own twinscroll rotated setup and ic piping for reversed manifold.

I am partial to the lincoln squarewaves, especially if you are doing alum. Otherwise any Miller xmt will do the trick. Plan on spending thousands for a nice lincoln squarewave. Make sure you get a machine that has a foot control if you want to do aluminum, it seems to require a lot of heat changes to get a good weld.
