IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Want a little better turbo than what comes stock on the STi and have a chance to get a reasonable price on a big TD05 16g that has been fully ported. What do you guys think? What are your thoughts on this turbo??? Thanks in advance!!! This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | i would not do anything smaller then an fp green personally. that car can make a lot of clean power pretty efficiently with a damn good tune on the stock block. which is definitely a lot of fun for a daily driver - i'm talking 360 to 380 pump not to mention what more you can squeeze from race gas - it's just a question of how long you can do that until you're built Last edited by dubrexer; 03-12-2006 at 04:13 PM. |

| STI Driver | While I don't plan to do it anytime soon. I do have the same question. What size of turbo is good for upgrading from the existing STI w/o mod. on intake exhaust or fuel pump, etc. Is putting in a bigger turbo possible to gain some power? EL Quote:

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | The only turbo that you can safely put on the STi with out any supporting mods would be the VF34. Anything bigger and you are gonna need more fuel to be safe. And the 16g is pretty small for an upgraded turbo on an STi. I would at least go td06 18g, or td05 20g. |

the smallest turbo anyone should be considering is a 20g. Considering that people with meth can make 320-330whp on the stock turbo there is no point "upgrading" to a turbo that will net you 10 or 20whp more. Maybe the 18g will give you more top end, but i dont see the point. when you upgrade your turbo you NEED new injectors and a custom tune. no if's and's or but's. you can put a turbo on without any other mods, but it makes no sense. think of it this way. if somone's heart is damaged and the veins around it are all clogged, you can put a new heart in but it won't be able to work at it's full potential unless you clear out the veins around it. same thing with our car and not upgrading intake, exhaust, fuel, ecu, etc. Last edited by evilSTi7; 05-23-2006 at 07:19 AM. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2005 Trader Rating: (10) | ^^ +1. the stock unmodified injectors are pretty much maxed out using the vf39. any larger turbo is going to require new injectors or modified stockers. also get a upgraded fuel pump. you can stick with the stock tmic up to a 20g w/o any issues. you'll just be leaving some hp on the table. the smallest turbo i would upgrade to is a 20g. |

| STI Driver | So, would the Cobb AP do me any good with a Protune? I already bought it, and I will change my to stage 1. Then later on, I will get the min. requirement for movnng it to stage 2. A slightly bigger turbo which can bolt on. I am not looking for a monster speed machine. Just want to get the potential out from it. so, no new brake, clutch, fuel pump, injector, etc. The Stage 2 AP, is suppose to mean new turbo back exchaust, would that not give me enough room to put in a 20G or maybe a VF everyone who talk about? any larger turbo will need larger injectors. if you want more power than the stock turbo can provide you have to get new injectors (or modify the stock ones), and a fuel pump. Hell an upgraded fuel pump is reccomended by some tuners on the stock turbo. to run a 16g, Super16g you will need at least 650cc injectors (our stockers are about 100ccs short). if you don't want crazy power but are willing to pay the same amount it would cost to get crazy power the TD06H-Super16g from deadbolt will flow nearly as much as an 18g but provide better spool. with the TD06H-Super16g work with stock injectors, and fuel pump? NO. will it work with a off the shelf AP map? NO you seem scared to upgrade your injectors, why is that? | |

same (if not better) spool, and more topend. but there are not too many people who have done that so, there isn't much information on td06h-18g equipped sti's available. whatever you do, do not get the td05, that's too small for a 2.5L J.
