Default cheap gas and pinging

Ok I hate to admit it but last night I put 87 in my car, had to, no money. Anyway, when I floored it it started pinging a little. Its stock, no mods. Are our cars that tuned out of the factory that it would ping with cheap gas?

Yes. If you get stuck with 87, you need to not be flooring it. The manual is pretty specific on what grade of fuel is required.

Dude! You CANNOT put 87 gas in a turbocharged car!

The engine will knock like crazy due to the poor gas and detune itself so much that it will run like crap (a good thing because otherwise you'll be looking at major engine damage). Due to the heat and pressure that the turbo adds the fuel will ignite before the spark plug fires. Subaru recommends 93 in the owners manual.

I don't know wheter to suggest you siphon that stuff out, but definitely don't drive with boost

I'd rather run out of gas than put 87 in my car.

lol how can you not have 2 more dollars to put in the tank, or just run like 5 bucks to get home or something. BIG mistake on your part. dont drive it hard at all.

or you can put 91 mix and add octane booster. it'll even out eventually, but i bet with octane booster it'll even it out from "great to decent" instead of keep on refueling it with 91 "****ty to decent"

I know, Im an idiot but I didnt have much of a choice. Theres a little over a 1/4 tank, and there was a little 91 left in it before. I was thinking of putting 100 octane to even it out, theres a few places around here that sell it. How much should I put in? Or should I just put 91?

i'm too tired to think, but if you do the math you should be "okay" by filling it up the rest of the way with 91. but it still won't be great...

And then the cycle will be complete . No money, buy 87. Ping, freak out, buy 100. End result more money spent than just buying premium to begin with.

Next time carry credit card for life's little emergencies...
