Default APS short ram intake vs. stock intake (dyno results)

I installed an APS short ram intake a couple weeks ago. The car ran good (no stalling, stumbling) with it on but it lost a lot of low end torque. I decided to dyno the car with the APS intake and the stock intake to see if it was a mental thing or if the car actually lost tq. Results: With the APS intake the torque was low, and the car ran very rich (between 10.5:1 to 11.5:1). We did about 5 runs and they were all around 290 hp and 290 ft./lb tq. Between each run we sprayed the intercooler with cold water. We did two more runs with the APS intake after resetting the ecu. It put down 300hp and 310 ft./lb/ tq. the first time and then went back to around 290/290 the second run. We put the stock intake back on and the AFR was back to 12:1 and the power increased. All of the runs were about the same at about 300 hp and 320 ft./lb/ tq.

Conclusion: The APS intake doesnt seem to be a good idea with the Cobb AP until they have a map for an aftermarket intake. I also had a problem with boost creep with the APS intake, and it seems to be gone now that the stock intake is back on.With the stock intake the car feels great. I believe the kandn typhoon should have similar results.

Mods: Cobb AP stage 2 map, 3" stromung dp, perrin 3" catback, 3" 3CE, kandn panel filter.

Feel free to ask questions or comment.

Greg

Thanks for posting proven dyno results. This is good info to know. I will probably go w/ a K&N drop in filter and the silencer delete eventually.

I loved the sound and looks of the intake but it is not worth it. If cobb comes out with a map for an intake, I will do another dyno test to compare.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a 3CE?

With the typhoon people were claiming 12 whp, but the graphs never showed the torque or AFR. The other thing about aftermarket intakes is that they reset the ecu before the runs with the intake like I did which gave a gave good results at first but the computer learned causing the car to run rich.

A 3CE stands for third (second cat for STI's) cat eliminator.
