Default APS(short) intake impressions (dyno #'s)

I installed it the other day along with a 3CE,and had it dynoed today. I put down 300 hp and 325 ft/lb tq. a few months ago without the intake and 3CE. Today I put down 298 hp and 304 ft/lb tq. It was a humid day, but I think the intake is messing with the car. The car is also running richer. The shop that has the dyno was having a dyno contest, i got lucky and only 8 cars showed up due to the rainy day. I won the contest and got $200 towards dyno time. I plan on dynoing the car again with the intake and then putting the stock intake back on. I know most people say to stay away from intakes, but I wanted to actually be able to prove if it was good or bad. Ill post a picture of the dyno sheet tomorrow. Ill keep everyone posted with the new updates.

BTW If anyone wants to sell their k&n typhoon intake or donate it for the day let me know,im in Reading,Pa. I want to dyno the car with the k&n for comparison so we can end the intake dispute.

Thanks, Greg

APS only made the short ram because so many people wanted it. We had an APS engineer in here the other day and he said that one guy almost quit because they were making him develope something they knew was a bad idea. For those that don't know, the short rams can develop OVER 100 (yes, one HUNDRED) degrees higher intake air temps than stock or a CAI. The Typhoon with the heat shield should be better, but I haven't datalogged one yet.

The only intakes that I really suggest are the Injen and APS cold-air's. We've datalogged probably 15 different intakes and some have really scary MAF voltages at WOT.

so is the aps cold air better than the typhoon in terms of power gains? and is it safe to use in snowy/rainy conditions?

Also keep in mind... a CAI on a non turbo vehicle will probably cause issues (in VERY rainy/flooding weather) as the water would go directly from the intake into the engine... I cannot possibly imagine, unless the filter is 100% submerged or close to it, water traveling through the ENTIRE intake system (some how getting sucked up 3 ft or piping, sharp bend to the right, through the maf, all the way through the inlet hose, through the turbo (hundreds of degress with a turbine spinning anywhere from 20,000-80,000rpms+, through the IC piping, IC, Throttle body, and then into the engine). I have heard of people having a flooded engine in flood conditions, but in rainy (even heavy rain)/snowy conditions, I honestly don't see it possible unless you drive through a huge puddle that submerges the filter or something. I mean you can spray water injection but have to worry about sucking in rain (when it will be vaporized by the turbine)? Other then getting dirtier then normal, I don't see how CAIs could ever pose a problem.

i might add, the eseconcepts intake panel DOES LOWER the intake temps measured at the MAF (by over 15º in winter FL temps!). also, the E.C. intake panel WILL help to lower the soak effect on the intake tube itself, whereas the stock cover will NOT allow intake temps to recover (and get near ambient) once it heats....

as measured with the ECUtek dash monitor.........

remember, there's a NEED TO BREATHE behind that recess...........

Or, instead of doing what Ese did just keep the stock intake duct that runs from the front of the hood into the fender. This will also help lower the temps due to feeding outside air into that cavity of the fender. This is especially useful for you guys with fog lights.

GREAT Pics ESE. I've got your turbo going together right now. Looks like it's going to be tomorrow for the tuning.... (needed a dang ball-end allen key) half the hardware is SAE half is Metric...
