That's not SOA's doing. That's a dealership package.

The Typhoon intake is by far the best and number one selling bolt on for the STi. I have seen very few complaints compared to the people that like it.

This is a dealer add on package. It is not approved, sanctioned or warrantied by SOA. That doesn't mean its bad, but don't think you'll get a subaru warranty.

On the Legacy GT's at the show, they had stickers "up to 340 hp". You don't think SOA will warranty that. No way.

Also, slvsti05, the 18's are not necessarily anything the factory should have given us, espescially as standard equipment. 18 inch wheels are pure bling. Sure they look nice, but they are 1) heavier 2) more expensive 3) require heavier tires 4) usually result in a slightly higher ride height.

The fact is that for performance, a car should have the smallest wheel that can fit around the car's brakes. Our car NEEDS 17 inch rims because of the big brembos. But if you were building a WRX up to be as fast as possible, for as little money as possible, with no real premium on bling, then a big fat set of 8 1/2 inch wide 15" wheels would be the hot ticket.

Some of us would rather save 5 lbs per wheel and have the 17s.

donmei, I disagree with you that the smaller the wheel, the better. The smaller the wheel, the taller the sidewall, which results in more sidewall flex. I read an article in one mag (I think it was european car) that tested the same car around the track with 16, 17, and 18" wheels. They found the 17s to be the fastest by a significant margin. It seems that from a performance standpoint, 17" is the best combination of sidewall height and low weight.

You can still put a low profile tire on a smaller rim.
