Ever since I went to a track event I've been thinking of getting an oil cooler. I put it up to the top on things to do to the car... Well, I was linked to an auction of a Spec C Oil Cooler (that is now at 300+ and ends today), the same company has another one available... for a REALLY good price. 198.xx

So I ordered it.

Here's the link.

Default RE: SPT vs STi vs 3rd party suspensions

I will install mine soon in the OEM position... it shouldn't be too hard..

However, I should note that a particular person on NASIOC bought one, had it for sale on the private FS forum for a low 385!!! and when I posted a link to the ebay auction, he bought them all... so there are no more available..

That's right, it's not. I'd be affraid of those hose fittings. The STi kit is over priced I think though.

That kit King of Imports sell looks awesome and one of the best IMO. I will be picking that one up for sure. Looks like a nice mini FMIC

I believe I saw some awesome data results from that kit as well (15-20 degrees drop in temps or something?). I will look up the old post.

Whats the issue with the fittings? They look just like any Goodridge or Earls fitting...

And, yes... it looks like he wants to profit BIG time from it. Rev_Happy (from here) left a pretty nasty reply to him... I had told him about this last night and he was gonna jump on it too...

BoricuaSTi,

Thanks so much for the link. I read your post belatedly -- well after someone went ahead and bought like all 10 of them put up for sale on eBay. After spending hours trying to figure out how to make something of this quality at a similar price, I gave up and dropped the original seller a note: "Do you have any more left?"

He still had one left, so I grabbed it right away this morning...! :-)

Have you received & installed yours yet? Any tips / heads-up?

Rich

Heads up:

Be wary of that kit. My buddy bought one from the same vendor on ebay and it came out broken. In addition, it was billed as being the exact same thing as the STi kit, made by the same manufacturer, and coming with all of the same parts, minus the STi logo. Having seen the kit in person, I can tell you that is not the case. It did not even come with mounting brackets. My friend is currently involved in a claim against this seller through ebay and paypal.

my 2 cents on oil coolers
I was thinking of getting a good quality cooler for some time but I got gauges first.
I have both oil temp and coolant temp gauges and I have notived that stock oil temp is pretty stable even when I am driving the crap out of the car. Coolant temp, however, is all over the place and seems pretty high to me at times (max so far 105 C) on coolant before it reaches the radiator. I have confirmed the accuracy of the gauge with a Fluke digital thermocouple (accurate to .1 C). From the observations I have seen (granted I have not driven continuosly on a track for 20 min during very hot weather), I think that our cars are more in need of a high efficiency aftermarket rad or perhaps that Evans coolant stuff. Also, I yanked my AC condensor (and compressor), so my radiator gets even better unobstructed air flow and the AC being on/off is not a factor of course. Oil temps look good and stable, coolant temps high. Perhaps money best spent on a good rad than an oil cooler. Perhaps both  comments?

I wouldn't really be cheap when it comes to an oil cooler...a poorly made kit will cost you big $$$ if it fails.

the fans kick on at 100 c. if you could get the fans to stay on all the time, i think you would see much more stable coolant temps.
