i gather it might be the price the keeps their popularity down. Even though they are well worth the dollar spent. Post everything you find. I'd like to see what they say. Good luck bro.

Default B&B Downpipe

salisburyv,

so you think the ASP sr55 would be a good match for my mods, as well as an all-out ECUtek custom mapping??

im beginning to be comfortable with this decision, and have all the other parts already inline and waiting (850's, samco inlet hose)

thnx S

This is awesome, i would like to hear more info on the APS SR 55, i have just purchased one and also plan on running Ecetek this spring. Sounds like i might be on the right path, but would really like to hear any info people have about this setup.

i have interact6ed several times now with Peter from APS in Austrailia.

he has been generous enough to answer 100% of my questions, but, doesnt have the time to register here, and continue the q/a sessions....

i have a list of Q/A i will try to organize and post up here very soon.

summary = the sr55 WILL work grwat on the 2.5, with proper tuning and octane only.
= the sr40 can work on the 2.5l, but is NOT recommended (more on that to come)

lol yea, that would do it.

I would still like to see something in the range of 410awhp on 93-94 octane. Not convinced that the sr55 is capable of doing this reliably.

Ese - looking forward to those Q and A's.

okay fellas...

i am now comitted to getting the SR55 next week. it should be in my grubby hands by this time next week.

tuning and install commences a week from this coming monday.

i have scoured the subu forums for repetitive data/posts/outputs on this turbo, and have not found a whole lot of info. what i have found lends itself nicely to my setup and goals.

Now that SR-55 has a larger comp wheel and larger turbine wheel than the SR-50 (same comp cover and turbo housing size though) and has sufficient mass air flow for around 500 to 550 horsepower at the flywheel.

The SR-40 turbo is more suited to the 2 litre WRX/STI engine and I would not recommend this turbo for the US spec STI unless you were looking toi build a hill climb car where peak power and torque was required in the low to mid rpm range.

Now I would be very pleased for you to post the info on the forum as I don't like to get involved in these technical areas where some people just want to debate for the sake of debate, and a forum member can generally post info and be seen as a more independent information source, now to your questions.

1) From memeory the SR-55 really gets motoring from approximately 3600 rpm and generated really strong power by 4000rpm.

2) 400 WHP should be easy to obtain with good tuning and on good fuel octane (94 octane) though this also depends on how efficient the air to air intercooler is, we run the APS FMIC on our US spec car and this works very well.

3) when I said 500 HP in my last post I was talking flywheel power not wheel power

4) I think the SR-55 will be perfect for your needs if you really want 375 to 400 whp, though you need to understand that the power developed largely depends on engine tuning and fuel octane.

Hope this helps.

__________________________________________________ _____________________________

1) You would need to run apprx 20 PSI to produce 500 to 550 flywheel HP.

2) You should be able to make very good power on 93 octane fuel if the engine is mapped/tune correctly, no need to use race gas.

3) I'm sure that the STI will be very quick with 375 to 400 WHP, I've driven our US spec STI with over 450WHP and it's a lot of fun.

4) Yeah the tuner and thier knowledge is extremely important, this makes or breaks the performance and driveability of the car so it always pays to make sure that the tuner knows and understands what you're expecting from the car. No doubt a car with a genuine 300 WHP is loads of fun to drive, most likely more power than many guys can handle.

Yeas the turbo is a 100% bolt on to the best of my knowledge so you should not have any drama at all with the turbo install.

Good luck and keep me up to date wuth progress.
i have decided to rely on my tuner, my accumulation of proven supporting mods and parts, and alot of online research to make this staged upgrade a reality.

in other words, i will hopefully have CONCRETE data, from my subaru dealer / tuner, to show the power output of the sr55 on a stage four upgrade, with agressive ECUtek tuning.

i also will be able to show the difference it makes versus the previous stage 2 i ahd done (and currently am using).

more soon, i promise.
