IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | STi owners, is the intake worth the money for what you get in this mod? is it just sound, or is there any performance gains that come with it? and if you do recommend an intake, which would it be? APS CAI? K&N TYPHOON SHORT RAM? FILTER CHANGE? OTHER? thanks This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Can anyone post numbers on the Perrin short ram? I know that K&N claims 12HP and it comes at the top end, similarly, TurboXS claims some decent gains, but it seems to be more in the midrange. My thinking is that the pipe after the MAF sensor is where the primary difference is in top end performance. The TurboXS kit makes use of the stock accordian tube, whereas K&N and Perrin use their own pipe. It would be my guess that the Perrin intake produces similar results to the K&N for this reason. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2004 Trader Rating: (4) | from what i've read and the people i have spoken to, I have found that many people who use the perrin intake end up taking it off for a variety of reasons. I have yet to hear/read anything to that end with respect to the typhoon for the STi. It may been a MAF sensor issue. Any one know if the perrin is a MAF direct fit? |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Well I asked about the Perrin primarily because that is what I ordered - and installed today. As you would see from the picture I attempted to attach, I also modified the stock air ducting to dump air right in front of the intake. Coupled with a removed snorkus, I doubt that is sucking in much warm air at speed, but who knows. Anyway, the top end feels less flat. I honestly can't discern a torque difference, but an extra 10 ft-lbs (or less??) on top of 300 is a tough thing to discriminate by the seat of the pants. No install problems, no CEL. Unless there are routing issues with a FMIC installation, I see no reason to expect problems. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2003 Trader Rating: (2) | Ok, so I managed to lift a finger and FTP the pic to my site. And for what it's worth, fabricating a cold air box out of aluminum or plastic is extremely simple. Like the K&N box, it doesn't really need to seal off the area so much as contain and shield it to be effective. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
