Well, that is a very good point. I actually have upgraded my turbo, not by much or anything, but I have the VF34. I know it's not huge, but at least it isn't stock. Also, I have no cats either. So all is well in that category. Hopefully the utec will be in tomorrow morning, it is being overnighted, and I can get everything smoothed out and put a smile back on my face. A little off topic, but I just put on a TXS TBE with the RFL-ti tip. Isn't that supposed to have a blue tip? did I get the wrong one? It doesn't actually sound as loud as I've been hearing people talk about.

Thank you,

RC

Rcrown,

Maybe those who have upgraded can loan or sell you their stock injectors while you figure out what youre going to do??

btw, another potential problem with running very rich is cylinder washing. That is where the excess gas (an excellent solvent for disolving oil) washes the oil film off of your cylinder walls. This can lead to excessive cylinder and ring wear rates, as well as in extreme cases piston galling.

gogats, that gave me a nice laugh, even though it had better not come to that.

I would do that donmei, but I have utec on it's way and will be here tomorrow morning. I understand all of the oil and wear issues, I'm driving it at a very limited and pampering rate. I really appreciate all of you guys' thoughts and opinions, be they aggressive towards me, or just your views.

Do you have a bike to ride or someone who could drive you in the meantime?? Even driving easily could be a problem. This really IS that serious.

my prayers are with your car in it's time of need.

xman, my car thanks you for putting it in your prayers. Well, I am only driving it for about 5 miles today and that's it. I'll let you guys know how it holds up and how and if the utec fixes my dilemma.

question:::

who (else??) makes injectors for the sti sideloader??? perrin just grinds the oem's (im told), and id prefer getting ones that are made with a bit more accuracy (i think), or at least at a more reasonable rate (for what you pay for)

well I did a Google search and found the following companies that make side feed injectors (not sure how many make them in suitable sizes for the STi)

Sard
Tomei
Blitz

I'm pretty sure that Bosch and Denso would also make them. Side feed injectors are not that uncommon, but are typically more expensive than the very common top feed style. Also be on the lookout for possible side to top conversion setups that might become available for the STi

So, is there just something really wrong with the PE's? What would the side feed injectors do different than the top feed?

there's nothing wrong with the PE's, side feed and top feed are just different designs. The fuel goes into the SIDE of sidefeeds and the TOP of top feeds, funtion is the same, fuel rail hookup is very different and wiring harness hookup *can* be different.

Ok, got ya. Yeah, the PE's have a different plug to use, it looks almost identical to stock, but there are little side inserts that are in a different spot. Man, I can't wait to get this stuff tuned out and have my car back again.

yeah that is very true. I've been on this forum for over a year now, and this is where I have learned almost everything on our cars. But this is a new one for me, I'm glad I learned something, even though it was at a big cost.

Man I swear it is posts like this that "make baby Jesus cry" [heh]. Sigh... anyway I won't say anything more about that.

As far as I know the only truly "drop-in" injectors for our car are the side feed PE850cc injectors. Perrin does/can mod your stock injectors to somwhere in the 7xxcc range but I personally like to keep my stock parts for getting myself out of potential situations such as this.

The only problem I have with the PE850cc injector is it is just to plain big for me. I have been told by a couple of tuners that they are a bit more complex to tune as well... aside from the obvious problems you run into when going with such a large injector in terms of idleing (low pulse width) situations.

The crappy part is the USDM STi has now been out for about 2 years and the PE850cc is still the only true drop in injector replacement that I know of. There are other solutions but they require new fuel rails and possibly connector adapters between the existing wiring harness and the injector themselves (IE: not plug-n-play). I personally would like to see a 650-700cc drop in injector but I don't know if that will happen or not.
