| S204 Racer | okay; since i dont have any advanced E.M. (or adjustable EM)) at the moment, i decided to simply improve the already good induction system with a higher-flow panel-style filter.... here's what i was reveiwing: 1) stiŽ genuine HF filter (about 55-60) 2) bmc street or race filter (about 100, if you could find it!) 3) hogsbreath? HF filter (local stores didnt carry the brand) 4) K&N HF gauze filter, comes preoiled..... (46 plus tax) after not much luck, i found the closest store to me had the k&n filter, and i decided on that. i think i shoulda held out for the sti version (why, i dunno), but i can say this... the k/n makes the car sound really neat again. (after reverting back to the stock bypass valve, i kinda missed the whoosh). you can hear alot of echoing from the BPV and the oversized i/c i am using now, thru the k/n filter; meaning the thing must flow more, since sound escapes it too(?) im not a fan of k/n on motorcycles, but feel it might be okay for automotive use...... anyway, for 46$, i feel the car might have a slight intake volume improvement, and certainly has a neater opertion sound (hearing the bpv at work, and the turbo spooling some) the only downside i found, sofar, was the thickness of the outer lip of the k/n filter made closing the box (by getting the tabs to latch to the base) a real effort and exercise in patience.... all in all, im happy, and mikss the worx whoosh a little less now (i just need to make sure everyone inb the car is completely silent when i shift, or we'll all miss the sound!!lol ![]() sti filter ![]() our panel filter p/n = 33-2232 is on my box; 332075 is per the k/n website (WTF??) the oem cfm~545cfm the k&n cfm ~881cfm (per the k/n box) i hope the added flow isn't at the sacrifice of filtration and intake component safety. the filter came pre-oiled, and seemd to be a bit generously done. i might remove some later (anyone have this 'gunk' up their MAF sensor -wire??) | S204 Racer | I have run K&N panels in every car I've owned in the last 8-10 years. I never had an issue with the oil. I took them right out of the bag and slapped them in. I don't have anything concrete on whether they allow more debris into the engine that a lower flowing filter, but I would think if that was an issue, someone would have discovered it by now. K&N's been around a while. |
