I just installed my K&N typhoon and has not problems yet. I was little worried becase Wrxs dont like any after maket intakes. But as of now.. Ive been driving it for about 2 days.. No problem and sounds great. You hear the turbo sppol and stock BPV that sounds like after market BOV. Only difference i notice was a raised boost on higher RPMs. i gained about 1.5 - 2 pounds of boost on higher RPMs. And I checked my EGT and doesnt seem to be running lean either. So everything seems fine and it was good $250 spent.

BTW i got it from Hirev Chris.

I installed mine today. It's fitment is excellent. It is pouring rain now so I will not have a seat of the pants review today. My stock Potenza tires are getting worn and my Rotas/Pirellis are OTW.

not so sure anything other than a Wideband sensor ought to be relied on for good AFR reading ... especially an EGT gauge. Just my .02

AFR is the best, but EGT is an indicator as well. Your EGT temp goes up as you lean out.

I just put mine in and love it. It only took about 50 min to install. Not hard at all. I like the intake sound with the dump valve noise tollerable and not too loud. I only notice power gains in 4th and 5th really. I paid only 225 shipped. Not a bad deal at all. I can get you the # if interested. I dig it so much I got the Perrin pully and Helix DP for an extra kick.

Is anyone besides me concerned with the filtration ability (or lack thereof) on the K&N filters compared to say the A'PEXi filter:
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fil...t/2/index.html

Or compared to a traditional paper filter:
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest1.htm

Yes, the K&N Typhoon makes more power...but at the expense of engine longevity due to more dust/dirt inhalation? Anyone else nervous about using a K&N filter on their STi?

Agreed.
I have had several K&N filters in the last 15 years with zero problems.

You guys that haven't had any issues with K&N filters in the past, have any of you had a used oil analysis performed to see if you have elevated levels of silicon in the oil (an indicator or dirt making it past the air filter)? Or inspected your intake track after the filter for signs of dirt?

I'm not trying to flame or rain on anybodies parade, but after reading lots of posts on the "Bob is the Oil Guy" web site (http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/) regarding K&N filters (along with other cotton-gauze and foam filters), I'm a bit nervous about running them in my STi. Yes, they flow better than a standard paper filter but (it seems) at the expense of letting more dirt into the engine. I think I'll sit on the sidelines for a while and do some more research.

If you're that nervous just hook up a catch can along with the intake. You can pick up a can for less than $100 and hook it up in like 15 minutes.

How is a catch-can going to help capture dust that the K&N air filter allows through? I thought the purpose of them was to catch oil or other fluids, I don't see how having one will do anything for K&N Typhoon intake users.
