Yeah, but it will make your car slower. Its been well documented.

Both,

They throw off the computer. Either without a s/w upgrade usually results in less power. Although some brands to this more than others.

If you want the bling of the noise, fine, but expect to pay for it with a bit of real world performance.

you don't *need* to remove the silencer if you don't want to. with a short ram installed, you're not using it anymore i left mine in, and will take it out "someday"

oh, and yes, it will give you all these pretty sounds

well, i've got an APS short ram installed. i did not dyno my car (ever)
neither do i dragrace at the track, so i have no *real* proof that it makes the car slower/faster/or no difference. but i can't really feel any difference.
however, it seems to me that spool up is just a little faster.

and i'm not sure if this is just my ears playing tricks on me, but since i have the intake installed, it sounds like my exhaust note has become slightly more agressive too.

Jurgen.

I've researched this subject tons. It seems to be a flip of the coin as to weather or not you will gain or lose HP with an intake installed. Turbo XS and K&N both have dyno charts to show that you gain HP with their intakes installed on the STI. We all know however, that dynos vary from run to run. Other people with these intakes installed will tell you that they ran slower at the track after the installation of the intake. If you do purchase one, make sure that it will not lean out your car. It needs to maintain the stock MAF sensor postion as much as possible. Be prepared to not be able to use your intake if you do any type of engine management. Most tuner companies set up their base maps using the stock air box. If you plan on having the car professionally tuned, then you may be able to use it.

My 2 cents

Jason
