IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | So I have been told mixed information and I figured I would ask you guys what you think. So the guy who I bought my 06 STi from said to shift below 2000 RPM's to get the best gas millage. Then today I had a guy come into my work that owns a evo 9 and he does alot with the evo's and Sti's and said to shift no lower then 3 grand because the cpu will learn that as your normal driving style and put too much gas in the engine. Resulting in exhaust issues and lower mpg. So my question is... Whats the truth?? Where do you guys shift for best gas millage? And yes I have read the forum about gas millage so please dont just say "here read this!" lol Thanks guys! This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | shift below 2k? I engage my clutch around around 1-1.5k rpms. So I don't really see that as a viable solution. I get 17-18 mpg city, and ~25 on the freeway with cruise control. I would say shift after 3k, but that is just my opinion. |

I used to have an Evo 5 and 8. Evos lack low end torque and I usually shift it around 3-3.5K rpm. With my 07STi before modding it, I shift around 1900 - 2500 rpm if I'm trying to save fuel. But if the traffic is very light and the road is nice, I shift at around 5500 rpm. My stock STi lack the top end power and torque so there is no need to run the engine up to 6000++ rpm. It's the main reason I decided to mod my STi to gain top end power and torque. Hopefully when my tuning is finished I can rev it to 8000+rpm and still have nice power in that rpm range | |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2005 Trader Rating: (7) | I wouldn't shift that low on any grade...I usually shift right under 3k rpms. I've found that I can gain 1 mpg incity by shifting at 2500 rpms, but it really makes the car feel like an econo-box with zero power in that range. The engine is trying to tell me something at those rpm ranges ("Stop being a ***** and use me!") |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | Well said!!! I know you started this with a need for an answer, but the truth is your not going to get great gas mil. out of an STI, that's not why they built this car. But, I've never heard of the ecu/computer "learning how you shift" unless w/ an after market accy. But, to end, I would just drive it like it wants to be driven, & go get a toyota p-rus to save gas. Good luck on that though..... |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I always shift at 3k or 3250. That is where I get my best mpg. If i would shift below 2k rpm it would take me quite a while to reach 50mph |
