IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I got my oil changed today at a new place. I had just read a thread that mentioned that my car (07 sti) actually hold about 4.8 qts instead of the factories suggested 4.3/ 4.4. I mentioned this to the guy. He looked at his computer and said 4.3. upon my return he mentioned that the put in 4.3 and it was still reading low so they went up to 4.8...still low. He then said they put in a full 5 quarts. I also just switched to mobil 1 5w-30. Does this extra ol present any problems like blown/ leaking gaskets etc. Also, kind of strange the car seems a bit sluggish when turning at low speeds. I have the Differential set in manual all the way back or locked out. It didn't seem this sluggish before. Any suggestions/ideas? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Oh, and I suggest you learn to do your own oil changes. Last edited by ConradSTI; 08-27-2008 at 09:19 PM. |

You shouldn't have to worry about having 5 qts in, but the manual does say 4.8 with filter and 4.2 without filter I believe if I remember correctly. You should be fine with Mobil 1. I used it for my first oil change. I have an 07 also. Everybody has their personal preference whether it be by brand or benefits. The sluggishness at low speed is probably because you have it locked out, with AWD vehicles one tire turns faster than the other making that feeling when turning. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I usually do my own oil changes. This place had sent out a gift certificate for a free oil change(in an attempt to gain new clients) I leave it locked out most of the time and it hasn't felt like this. I'm going to call them today. |

Took it out for a run and just seems sluggish when you get on it especially in 3rd gear and up. Do you guys think too much oil would slow it down. Either way i am taking it in tomorrow and making them drain some out. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2008 Trader Rating: (0) | I also just switched to mobil 1 5w-30. Do you think that could have anything to do with it? The acceleration just doesn't seem as brisk. I spend a lot of time in the car(4,000 miles in august alone) and pay attention to how things feel. I know a lot of people run 4.5 qts do you think thats enough to make a difference .5 ? I don't want to risk blowing a gasket or forcing a any leaks. |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | i always put 5 quarts in my car and i do my own oil changes. ive ben doing it this way since day 1 and now im at 67000 miles with no problems. i only do this because anything with a turbo (even brand new), that is driven spiritidly somewhat often is going to burn oil. thats just the nature of the beast. now i wouldnt go putting anything over .5 quarts in it. a whole extra quart may cause some problems. |
