Hey all, I was wondering if our cars could handle a 50 or 60 shot of NOS?...possibely a wet kit...I know this has been discussed but I just couldnt get a definite answer...i know that so many people get trigger happy and i know in my case i would be mature enough to handle it and would take the proper steps before running, obviously with some better plugs and octane booster and maybe spray once in a blue moon and at the tracks on and off...now with this being said would it be alright?...and i also understand i can just up the boost and probably get the same results but i personally wanted to run NOS, it would be my first NOS experience, what do you all think?...and would i need to do anything to the ECU?
Thanks in advance...

its NAWZ, not NOS ;p

anyways, while you could theoretically ruin a 50shot of wet injection on the stock ECU, you are asking for trouble. First off, is you run the risk of detonation. IN order to eliminate this, you need to retard the timing.

If you are really set on nawz, maybe look into an intercooler spray just to cool the air intake charge. Its not gonna give you the full effect of a 50hp shot, but its still gonna be noticable.

Also, you can only add NOS when at WOT, or else bad things MAY (not will) happen. Besides the fact that it is kinda expensive to keep filling the bottles, i would just go with a UTEC and call it a day.

our pistons and ecu don't like nitrous. Get a bigger turbo, VF-22 or something, before you spray.

you probably could run nitrous, a small shot. here is my .02.. i have two cars i drive, a 90 crx si w/ engine swap and nitrous 75hp. the crx is cool if you like no torque, tire spin, and a 8500 redline, but the sti is much better to drive. i just got the sti about a month ago, and i ran out of nitrous at about the same time. i have not refilled it. the sti is more fun nad i lost all ambition for the honda. refilling a nitrous bottle gets expensive FAST. even with a 75 shot i could empty a 10lb bottle in one heavy night of fun, nitrous usually runs $5 lb. for me with tax that is 50 bucks, now i averaged one bottle a month. IT IS A PAIN, YOU ARE ALLWAYS OUT AND NEVER HAVE THE MONEY FOR MORE. i probably will never use nitrous again on a street car. yes it is cheap horsepower, until you have to keep refilling the bottle. not too mention the bottle will most likely be in the trunk, and remote openers are not cheap, plus a bottle heater is a must, so a good kit will cost 600, opener 200, heater 200. just buy a tbe and engine man and you will have more power all the time, safer and no refills!! trust me..... i see no positive to using it, but if you do i highly recommend Nitrous Express. they are even local to you and they are about the best company to deal with, and if you do end up using it please let us all know how you like it.....

I think people are being dismissive of NOS, but it seems worth taking a look at. You really cant get horsepower for this cheap anywhere but NOS. I know that there is some potential here to blow your engine, but not *much* more than UTEC or a boost controller. I have done everything possible short of a new turbo, and really don't feel like dropping a few more thousand after what I have already spent for a green turbo, injectors, and a new UTEC tune (on a dyno). That is really pricey, and a 50 shot of NOS would about do the same thing. Even if it doesn't, I mean, its like half or less of the price. Has anyone on the board tried the Nitrous Express Wet kit? I am curious to hear some first hand experience.

yes i personally have a nitrous express kit on my honda, not the sti.. but the quality of the kit could not be any better, i have talked with their tech support and they are very knowledgeable, i have never had a problem or complaint with the kit. i would not rule out nitrous, but dont get caught up in the initial low price... in the long run it is not that cheap......

You have a good point. I have read some posts over at NASIOC and there are a few people who have 75 shots on their WRX, or at least say they do. I think that a 75 shot would be as large as you could go with the STi. I love the idea of the purge valve...I guess I have a little 2F2F in me after all. Sure would be intimidating to see that coming out of the hood scoop on the STi, kinda like a bull with steam coming out of his nostrils! I am sure that it gets old filling up the bottle, but I think I could live with that. Besides, I don't think I would use it except in races and track stuff. It is only supposed to come on during WOT. Anyway, something worth looking into...

Nitrous is pretty safe these days. its just the added complexity of running Nitrous and a turbo together that would keep me from doing it. On a NA engine i would'nt think twice but blowing up an STi is an expensive ordeal. Dsport magazine just blew thier STi motor up and lets just say no one is making aftermarket internals for the 2.5 yet. they are having to endure the added expense of having custom parts made, pistons and rods to be exact. not cheap, even though we only have a 4 cylinder.

as far as filling the bottle up, i really dont have a problem because i can get it filled for 1.60 a pound and i wouldnt use it but certain races and certain runs at the track...i think im gonna get it done after i get my engine management and run it then maybe a 50 shot wet kit

With $500-700 for nawwwws which adds what... 50hp? Why not upgrade to a VF34 or something and have a permanant 50hp? Nitrous are for slow cars that try to be fast.... or for turbo cars that have such big turbos they need it to help spool up, or for pro drag racers that has already reached the max potential on their bigass turbos and need an extra boost. I'm sure whatever tuning shop you take your car to will strongly recommend against the 50 shot Naws. 50 shots on an N/A car.... I can see why it would be beneficial, but with a turbo car gaining 50-100hp is easy.

Sooooo fasttttttttt.....sooooooooooooooooo furiouzzzz... *presses nawwws button right before the finish!!!*

oooooooooooooh yeaaaaaaaaaa =o

Nitrous is for slow cars that try to be fast? whats with that. maybe you've never been smoked by a nitrous snorting big block Camaro? Nitrous is a poor man's turbocharger. with a big block you can easily run about a 300horse shot on 93 octane. 500hp NA big block+ 300hp pill= very very fast down the quarter mile.
